Went to get Euro's for our holiday today, wanted to buy them using our debit card, got told cannot change money without producing my passport due to money laundering restrictions.

Cashier then told me that if we pop across the road to our bank and draw cash, then they can change it without producing a passport

am I missing something here???

no id needed with cash but needed with a debit card that leaves a paper trail.
