near you

I was taught the rule I before e except after c

But I've just seen this post on fb "I before E except when you run a feisty heist on a weird beige foreign neighbour"

What other rules were you taught at school that you've now found out to be incorrect??

I think I remember hearing somewhere that the I before E rule is actually wrong in more cases that it's right if you get what I mean lol

London and France

The file is actually

"i before e, except after c, with some exceptions"

The exceptions generally are when the ei is pronounced ( or nearly pronounced) as two separate sounds; as in the examples you gave;

Eg feisty; it's not pronounced "feesty"; if you draw it out, it's almost two sounds; " fiyeesty"

Beige is " bayeege".

Someone will rein in this thread with other examples. Poor kids, making spelling mistakes because of a rhyming rule that's not always valid. Skeins of examples that flout it.
