So one of our children is in need of braces, i just had a call from the practice she was referred to from our dentist. They are saying that we can't even get an initial appointment until the end of October.

This this normal waiting time for this or could I ask to be referred elsewhere? TIA

Hi im a dental nurse, the waiting lists for braces are very very long around 2 years maximum before a brace will be fitted. There is a limit on there contracts and they renew every april so around this time because there is waiting list which are back logged, there contract will be fulfilled for this year and cant take on the next lot till april which is from the list that would be building up all year. Hope that makes sense xx

Thanks for the reply, yes it all makes sense. One thing I am concerned about is that we may be moving soon, in your experience is it possible to change treatment centres part way through appointments or would they not take us on in that scenario? Xx

You could pay privately at approx £1k a brace. The wait doesn't seem excessive to me.

UK dentistry is a joke.

It's not acceptable that you should wait more than 2 weeks.

But that's the fucked ip system.

a thousand pounds, no way.

I'm going to have to find another one anyways as we are due to relocate and so the wait will go on...

You are joking right? Orthodontist appointment for wonky teeth is hardly an emergency situation.

At least £1k. My daughter has just got a quote and as she is over 18 it's £2k for top and bottom.

Just around the corner

And bear in mind that in 20 years time nature and wisdom teeth will have taken their course, and you may begin to wonder if all the time, patience, pain and money was worth it.

If you just move area you will then be transferred to someone elses waiting list and could go back down the line. If you somehow manage to make the appointments where you are just to get the brace fitted at least then once its on its much easier to find another orthodontist to take over that treatment for you than it would be to start from scratch again. Best thing to do is discuss with orthodontist when you go but id say get the brace on there has you are up the waiting list already xx

500€ for my freind's daughter.

And another friend had dental implants , - that even the so called "Specialists " in UK said were impossible ( though might be possible for £ 15, 000), were done for 3000€ by the local dentist.

no one should accept the dire state of the sick joke that is UK " dentistry"

Stoke area

Having to wait a few weeks is normal for braces. There is no rush to have it done. Sometimes the orthodontist wants to wait till the child's mouth grows a bit more, to see if the teeth straighten out or fit a little better.

Thank you, I'm sure we could manage the travel somehow. That's great advice xx
