near the sounds of the wimborne quarter jack!

Well they`ve been working (AKA bodging it up) on the viaduct all weekend after the scrapyard fire which "all but brought the structure down" and the M1 is soon to be fully open again.

But want I want to know is who thought it was a good idea to allow something as volotile and potentially unstable as a scrap yard to be located under one of the country`s major arterial routes!

My thoughts exactly. You'd think in this country some 'jobs worth' would have thought it through already?

evesham

the roads minister has just been on the news to ay that never in his whole career as a firefighter has he seen a fire of such intensity.

it makes me laugh when people go on moaning about things like this. would you rather they just kept the road open and let people drive on it until the flyover collapses and kills a number of people??

People who man about flight delays due to bad weather also wind me up lol

Thats because you're all flooding south and into London like you do most Mondays! the funnel that is the elevated section leading to Staples Corner can only take so much - its a 50 year old construction for gods sake designed to fulfill a job that it now has to fulfill magnified by the increase in road traffic use every day as others have said, it is extraordinary that a potential fire risk should be allowed to set up in business directly under the elevation! Just asking for trouble I'd say

you will probably find that the scrap yard was there before the motorway.

and i think that the risk is fairly low as its been 50 years without the scrap yard going up in flames

if you are surprised at what is next to roads you'd be really surprised by what is next to railway lines....

so by your logic, you would have to ban any business that uses "any" sort of gas or gas canisters from being next to a major road/railway... because if there is any sort of major fire.... that is a minimum of 24hr closure just in case they explode.....

this was a freak accident... and as the firefighters said, the most intense fire they have seen in quite a while... so take it for what it is..

in Lancashire

Think the 'minister' was being a tad 'political' on his reaction to the fire beneath the M1, he is the MP for the constituency next to the Buncefield oil refinery and that was pretty severe.

Fact is there are thousands of mostly car workshops beneath railways and roadways where acetylene cylinders are used.

Simple economics really, cost too much to either relocate or compensate where they to be all forcibly moved.
