Dog adoption

I adopted a 3 year Alsatian...yesterday does anyone have any tips or had a similar experience maybe some serious dog trainers on here....I've had dogs my whole life just never adopted

Can't offer any advice about the adoption bit really.

I would say don't leave him too long or let him off the lead until he has settled.

If your in Shrewsbury we could go walking with our gsd when settled in.

No I'm only working up there for a few days I shouldn't of bothered changing my location to be honest lol....thx for the advice though my parents are at home to look after her after all they got her in the first place

It's easy. I have rescues and foster, just train them, no different to training a pup most of the time.

This..

brought home our 2nd rescue pup this afternoon, once she's settled in will start to train her same as with the last one, and the one before that..

Hi.

I am a dog trainer and have also owned German Shepherds. In all honesty it's hard to give advice to you without seeing you or and the dig. There are lots of facets involved as people and dogs are all individual. Generally German Shepherd dogs are naturally protective. Take him/her to local dog walking areas and keep on a lead. Be relaxed , don't over fuss and assess for yourself your dog's behaviour. I could go on for hours about this tbh

She walks great just goes crazy when there is another dog I think it's just over excitement I'm not overly bothered but want to train her to stop doing that as she's my parents and they are quite old

But seeing as we are being rude and serious if your such a good dog owner why are you asking for advice off strangers

u need someone with a dog that is prepaired to spend some time with you,then approach with your dog and when it gets excited, turn it around and walk away, do this several times and the dog will get the idea that getting excited gets it nowhere

Treat every day as training day- even play can be learning- just make it fun. Keep it short and sweet and be consistent. And that's across the board so that everyone looking after the dog is using the same methods and commands.

u might also try a squeaky toy in one hand to keep the dogs attention on you rather than the other dog or a favourite treat as a distraction,there are several methods, but most of all be patient it may take a while

Get a dog obedience training book. Gsd should be very easy to train and they mature quick so with a rescue you prob have missed the boisterous pup stage

I use positive reinforcement for my guy. Whatever you do be consistent
