It's a spread, made from yeast extract. It's dark brown, thick and sticky with a very strong salty flavour.

People tend to either love it or hate it and it's now sometimes used to describe things that people either love or hate.

If a person says they are like marmite, that's what they mean; people either love them or hate them.

It still probably won't relate to a septic though as I don't think they have vegemite in the US.

I'm told Marmite tastes stronger. Vegemite isn't so tangy apparently.

I don't like Marmite but I like Twiglets, which is just bizarre.

Thanks for the info! I googled it as well, and i must say, i think i will be happy if i never run across marmite in real life! I feed my dog brewer's yeast tablets and the smell is atrocious, definitely not something i ever want to ingest!
