Well the end of the holiday season approaches and things are getting quiet so i thought i would book a cottage in the lake district for a week.

Planning on walking/photography/spoiling myself for a week of serenity; anyone up in that neck of the woods that can recommend some places? I will be on my ownsome, however somewhere with a local pub wouldn't be amiss; I do socialise occasionally (but I have to keep my socks on because of the webbed feet)

It will be a non-swinging week ( ); so not fishing for a meet; just looking for somewhere tranquil; where I can light a fire; cook some good food; drink some nice wine, and generally be quite selfish

Not your typical fabswingers post so I will of course end it with... "fancy a fuck?"

i was born in the Lake District and i recommend Coniston. The copper mines rent cottages. Coniston is much quieter and not so comercialised as Bowness on Windermere or even Keswick, but does have a couple friendly pubs. Also a good base for thinks like Ambelside. or Windermere. Some great walks and stunning scenery xx

Where ever you decide, have a lovely time x who know maybe next yr can join you xx

If you fancy not so visited, try the Lythe Valley. If you want trad touristy with solitude not so far away then Hawkshead or Grasmere. Bars, night life, continental feel then Bowness.

I'll add that Ulverston is also a nice market town to base yourself as there's always something on.

Drive further up and go to the Pencil Museum too.

I was thinking of seeing if I can get a couple of days off to head up to Ulverston as I only had a couple of days there this year.

Don't go to Barrow. Strange types there.

I'm a Yorkshire dales girl... That place is my soul food. Thoroughly reccomend Hill view cottage in Appersett just outside of Hawes in upper Wensleydale.

I've been to the lake district a couple of times, went to uni in Lancaster so it was a beautiful place to visit. Hawkshead was my favourite, very secluded and tucked away, if you're up for that total isolation, the road sort of ran out, and there were these amazing views... beautiful. Very jealous, have an excellent time!!!

Not really much to add to the posts above. The area is stunning. From photography point of view, the coastal ports of Maryport and Workington have lots of harbour action and the sunsets can be pretty spectacular. There are also loads of secluded streams and falls for your LE stuff.

I use to love rock climbing in the Lake District. There were some great climbs. Badger Rock was always my favourite. Alas nowadays my climbing days are over but I have fond memories of great times.

Take your pick, there are so many places in the lakes that suit your needs.

My personal preference is

Windermere, so many places around the lake.

Pooley bridge, ullswater,

Conniston, another nice area.

Rioja of course... Or a merlot... If you're not feeling red, gavi di gavi (an Italian white) is sublime.
