Summer Invasion of Leeds

By my reckoning on this wee map in my diary (thumb on Portsmouth little finger on Scapa, middle finger half way point) Leeds is pretty much central to everyone in Scotland and England with excellent rail, air and road access. Its not too bad for the Irish either.

I am suggesting that on Thursday July 21st 2011, without planning, group bookings or anything else other than your individuality and sense of adventure, all willing Fabsters should go to Leeds and wander around aimlessly trying to find each other. Then report back the following Monday how many of us linked up.

The recognition code will be a well displayed badge about your person saying FAB. You shall approach politely and ask are you a Fabster. If you hit on lucky go Fabster spotting together.

I am doing it (good shops and restaurants too) I love wandering around aimlessly and to think others are doing exactly the same thing is rather an amusing prospect to me.

Thats the date. Thats the place. Are you mad enough to join in? A pic of you outside Harvey Nicks and a newspaper with the days headlines visible are your only proof and will be needed for verification you were there.

At 5pm I will go to a pub or restaurant and sign in on my laptop and reveal where I am. If you are still wandering aimlessly all by yourself at least you will find one fabster.

No need for "I can't do it's then" just do it if you are gonna and don't do it if you're not.

Thats your mission if you choose to accept it. Bon Voyage!!!!

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

I'll probably do it as I live nearby but I won't be able to find out where you are as I don't have an iPhone, andriod or laptop.

Or I could be sneaky as say 'anyone else thinking about coming should NOT message me to tell me where they'll be. Really, thats NAUGHTY!!'

Or after your wanderings and you havent found anyone by 5pm you could go back home, read the location and come directly to me!

What a great idea. A FAB version of what I believe the youngsters call a Flash Mob. Look it up on YouTube. The 'T' Mobile ads are the most famous ones but there are ones where total random strangers all turn up at the same time in the same place in, for example, a Denis The Menace Jumper. Usually arranged through the likes of Facebook. There are some excellent ones. However, I don't think we could do an activity based on our common interest

I'm up for it. Would be a real grin. Someone with the technology could post updates on FAB as the day unfolds.

Yep. Count me in

"wow, undercover fab members wandering around leeds. Tricksy little hobbitses."

Thats what the exercise is all about. It was inspired by someone saying you never know who is a swinger in the streets so I thought a day out of anonymous swingers from this wee site, in one place on a designated day would be sort of sexy role play and also a change to just window shopping and add to the fun of 'sight seeing'.

I often hop on the train for days out - head for Edinburgh or Glasgow or over to Manchester or Liverpool or a day in Brum etc. Have an overnighter and just enjoy the time away. I love people watching though.

Can I just make a point here. I don't know where it sprang from but there are no boundaries or rules of where you can stay go or visit in the town centre when I thought of this little jaunt. Just to recap its your sense of adventure and your motivation. If you want to hook up with others thats fine too but defeats the object of the fab searchm but not everyone is as comfortable as me about visiting unfamiliar places as I am. Do it your way. I will still, as said, be wandering aimlessly... but with a mission. Thanks xxxx

I was thinking of the outcome and how it could be deemed a success perhaps there should be a wee prize for the ones who grab the most fabsters and some bail money for those kidnapping innocent passers-by! I still think I'll be sitting on my own at 5pm and everyone having a right laugh in the pub up the road!!"

Damn, wrong quote. Anyhow since when were we kidnapping passers-by????

Inadvertently approaching those we think are 'one of us' and dragging them off semi-protesting. Its my humour. You have to excuse it.

great idea and am definitly up for it. I work in Leeds city centre so I will out hunting. Park Row & City Square is a nice place to meet up or hang about for potential meets. Lots of pubs, bars, coffee houses & resturants. Plus a nice little park to relax and enjoy the nice weather.

Still intereste.... but most of the appeal was the LACK of precise arrangement.... I love the idea of wandering round Leeds asking random strangers if they are members of Fab LOL

So don't make it too prescriptive, will you? Plus, maybe ask Friar.... he's still in touch with the OP, so it may be that the OPs plans are still progressing.

"By my reckoning on this wee map in my diary (thumb on Portsmouth little finger on Scapa, middle finger half way point) Leeds is pretty much central to everyone in Scotland and England with excellent rail, air and road access.

Bon Voyage!!!!"

what a bldy cheek. comin in here making suggestions tch!!!

"What a great idea.

Yep. Count me in "

There is a group that "hit" furniture shops, all arrive at the same type, sit on all the sofas....and then leave...a confusion in their wake!!!!

Perhaps we could all hit a Bed shop at the same time....

Or you could ALL come to Tease 2 Tonight, things WILL be happening there tonight and tomorrow!!!!

"a possible date and time might help?"

The OP has given us a date: Thursday July 21st 2011. And a time: 5pm she will invite us to join her, if we haven't managed to find any other Fabsters.

So I'm planning on starting about 2 pm (but I do need someone who has internet on their phone, in case I'm still Billy-No-Fab-Mates, by 5 pm) LOL

But does anyone want to put this in the organised events section who has used it before and is better known than us so more can see it and attend. Just put the OP's post on there with a rough estimate of those alreay confimed and include something on the thunderbird theme for those who don't visit the forum. I'm sure you'll all be delighted to know that the OP has returned to Fab, as she promised, and (as a new member - with very similar name!) she will be able to post to the Forums within a week.

On the not-quite-so-good-news front, she's not sure at the moment whether work/family commitments will permit her to attend on the original date. But I'm sure she'll post and let us know, as soon as she can.

Hello everyone. Well... I must polish my crystal ball more often. I thought hmmmm July, nothing planned not working holidays not until August perfect time to have a wander hence the suggestion of this 'different' get together all those weeks ago. I got some unexpected work, though and right on cue at the end of it when I returned home I got an out of the blue text from PP asking if I was still going to the Invasion of Leeds. Although I suggested it, it seems you've all just entered the spirit anyway regardless of me still being a member of the site... so thats great! I can't say positively yet if I will be there. I will literally wake up on the morning of the 21st and know how I'm fixed. I have to go back to France soon and theres a family wedding on 23rd (not got outfit yet so Leeds shipping trip would be ideal). I can't stay over as planned so all I can say is I'm playing it by ear. Which is probably superfluous information as all of you planning to join in are sussed!

As for closing my account dowm - I'm a loose ends type and just get up and go without feeling the need of an announcement. Same as coming back to the site. I'll just blend back and thats it!
