Fire a few of the males at random, hire some women.

Gender imbalance being addressed, the remaining men may hate you but they'll fear you. Some will fancy you even more.

Sorted.

However, darling Knitter, I shall send some sparkly, twirly, pink, fluffy booby hugs in your general direction because you sound like you need them.

I think it's one of those statements that becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

"Women are gossipy bitches" - so you interpret quiet conversations as sneaky gossip, talking about you behind your back and do the same. A group of men having the same conversation wouldn't be subject to the same suspicion.

I hate women who put and hold other women down and they are absolutely rife, especially among "I'd rather be one of the lads!" crew.

I must say I was really surprised to see so many of those comments on here yesterday. There have been a couple of threads concerning sexism over the last few months, with many posters believing that society now treats all genders equally. This thread highlights just how ingrained negative perceptions of women are. It's incredibly saddening.

If they really are bitches then fine. But are they? All of them? All the women you work with? And are you encouraging the behaviour? Are you modelling positive behaviours in the workplace with your own conduct, or are you joining in with what you perceive as bitching? For other women coming into the work place, how are you behaving towards them?

(For "you" read "one" - I don't mean you, specifically.)

Where have I called men bumbling idiots? I wouldn't agree with that either, except the small number who are. Don't try and make something about misandry when it isn't, that's not a great defence.

You can only draw on your own experiences.

Bitchiness isn't confined to women but if you've only ever worked with mainly women you'll probably come to that conclusion as you've had no experience of men.

I don't think a lot of people believe that if it's women saying it about other women that it's sexism or misogyny. I've seen the suggestion that online sexual insults and threats can't be misogynistic because it's often women hurling be abuse at other women. The mind boggles.

Sometimes they are true, but the comments above are generalisations. None of the posters from yesterday began their statements with 'some women', which I could happily accept as there are some real douchebags out there, male and female. I take exception to being lumped together with particular type of person based purely on my gender as that's not what I'm like, and neither are most of the women I know. People are still so ready to believe in negative gender stereotypes. Misogyny is misogyny, whether it comes from a man or a woman.

But do people *really* mean the entire male/ female population when they make comments? All the posts on this thread seem to me to be based on personal experience and their opinions. If (for example) all the women they have worked with in the past have liked girly chat then that is their experience.

I'm not huffy about it because they haven't worked with me and therefore I know they don't mean me ..and not the entire female population of the world.

The women working in an office will be different to the women working down a coal mine. Their chat will be different.

Surely all comments on any subject can be assumed to be prefixed with "some" unless otherwise specified.
