"Why do some go for lesbians that look like men? I often ask myself this question when I see a lesbian couple and both are "butch" look like men or one looks "butch" like a man and the other one looks more feminine. Thoughts? " Because of penis envy obviously... Or maybe gender is a fluid societal construct and how someone chooses to present themselves is a personal choice? And if 'male' apparel and an outward appearance of being 'butch' is what they wish to do, there is the choice and freedom to do so?

I'd still like to know why they go for butch looking ones.

"Isn't it just personal preference? Some guys like bbw, some don't. Some women seek bbc, others say no black or Asian on profile..... It's just personal choice. I'm sure lesbians can make personal choices too...just like the rest of us!" Have I said they can't!

If i was a lesbian I'd be a lipstick lesbian and I'd want a lipstick lesbian partner. Why? If I preferred women to men, why would I want a women that looks like a man. "There are probably as many reasons as there are individuals. Women could be dressing that way because they identify more with the masculine aspects of their personality. It's not as simple as "this is what a man should look like" and "this is what a women should look like". Gender is more fluid and less binary than that. Others may want to deter the attentions of men. There's also confirmation bias in this. You are noticing the more "butch" looking lesbians more. I have lesbian colleagues who don't dress that way, and people just automatically assume they're straight. " I hadn't t thought about them wanting to deter the attention of men.

"I've been in relationships with women for nearly 20 years, and my past partners have been a mixture, I'd say some were boyish rather than butch.. It's completely personal taste, you cant help who you feel attracted to. A lot of people go for men with huge muscles, and in their opinion that looks manly, whereas personally I can't stand it and am not attracted by it in the slightest. Along side the fact that I don't wanna be stood up because it's abs and pecs day at the gym!"

I often ask myself this question when I see a lesbian couple and both are "butch" look like men or one looks "butch" like a man and the other one looks more feminine. Thoughts? " They aren't women who "look like men" - they are just women who look like themselves... I'm more lesbian than bi, and only have life relationships with women - who are their own individuals. I just can't see anything attractive at all in feminised women who dress up in make-up, lingerie and heels etc.. We all have our own likes and dislikes - simple as that!

" It's hard work on this thread isn't it! A reasonable question following by all sorts of nonsense that tries to force words in the OPs mouth. The term "personal preference" doesn't actually mean anything and people don't seem to understand that a question that starts with "why" is seeking an explanation, not a statement.

"It's because they aren't gay at all. Lesbians are cool so they are just pretending to be one. They choose a woman that looks like a man because they don't fancy women. Much like "bi curious" women on here that lie back with their eyes closed so a woman will lick her as her husband watches. Women that wear trousers secretly want to be men. They have cock envy. " I do love you

The question is "why do some go for lesbians that look like men?" If "it's their preference" was the answer then the question is obviously intended to mean "why do some have a preference for lesbian that look like men?". 'Because they do' does not answer a 'why' question. The sensible answer appears to be "i think some woman are attracted to masculinity but not men Same as some guys are attracted to femininity but not women" I have a friend who is fond of rug munching and she's beautiful. "I can't decide whether this thread is more or less ignorant that the last bi thread... I didn't see the other one. I'm not ignorant about lesbians/gays or bisexuals. There's some very decent replies in here Really? Variations of "it's a preference" do not answer the question that was asked. How can it be answered any other way? Whay attracted you to your partner over his mate? Why did you choose him and not the other? That's not even an answer!! It's just circular logic!! There are other trends with male height and women's hip to waist ratio for example. And the scientific formula is? This is the problem - we might want to find a 'magic formula' for attraction and, yes there are traits that can be considered to be generally attractive but these are piss poor at determining the specific attractions of individuals. Unless we're simply reverting to stereotypes? " It's a matter of probability, a concept most people have great difficulty with.

I often ask myself this question when I see a lesbian couple and both are "butch" look like men or one looks "butch" like a man and the other one looks more feminine. Thoughts? No thoughts at all.
