does an awful lot of unseen good, many of the athletes would still be inactive and unconfident if the previous game were not there to inspire

also.....why is the paralympics not bollocks? is it because they are disabled and you were too afraid to admit that you think that is bollocks too because that would make you look bad?

OP..

take both index fingers, place at bottom corner of lip each side of face and very gently move upward whilst looking in a mirror..

that my not so happy friend is called a smile, once you've seen how much nicer it looks on your fizzog try doing so without the use of fingers..

tip, a smile uses far less muscles than a frown..

enjoy..

I think firstly there is a massive regain in revenue from the games. More people taking up sport/buying equipment paying to train etc

plus it could make a more healthier nation which will save on nhs in long run.

And for me personally I couldn't take the money away a destroy dreams.

There is a core grant from DCMS but the bulk is from the Lottery.

“REMEMBER YOUR GREATNESS

Before you were born,

And were still too tiny for

The human eye to see,

You won the race for life

From among 250 million competitors.

And yet,

How fast you have forgotten

Your strength,

When your very existence

Is proof of your greatness.

You were born a winner,

A warrior,

One who defied the odds

By surviving the most gruesome

Battle of them all.

And now that you are a giant,

Why do you even doubt victory

Against smaller numbers,

And wider margins?

The only walls that exist,

Are those you have placed in your mind.

And whatever obstacles you conceive,

Exist only because you have forgotten

What you have already

Achieved.”

I admire ParaOlympians. They are extraordinary people who not only inspire disabled people but non-disabled people too. I wish more was spent on the ParaOlympics and I would personally pay more

Every time I say I'm not going to watch the Olympics because it's become an overly commercialised back slapping contest and every time I get suckered in by a sport I've never heard of, this year it was handball, so I was there cheering on some country I'd practically never heard of, finding out when there next game was and then found myself saying I can't come out tonight, Uzbekistan are through to the quarters!!.

.

Although I must admit I did stay awake to catch Brazil playing the USA at beach volleyball

Why should money that is put into the lottery be given to the government to fund things that taxes pay for ?

And why should people who don't pay in get benefit ? ( I'm not a regular player !!)

I'd rather see it used to get the youngsters up and into sports that will not only get them fit but might need environments that may stimulate jobs ?

The government though shouldn't take any praise for the efforts of the sportsmen because it hasn't got anything to do with them ?

Use the money to do things that the government through cuts can no longer do ?

Lottery money does get used in that way too.

Youth organisations working on all sorts of things, including sport, bid for Lottery funds. Domestic abuse charities bid for Lottery funds. Meals on Wheels and local community halls running pensioner lunch clubs bid for Lottery funds. Projects working with homeless people bid for Lottery funds.

Then there's the Heritage Lottery fund supporting buildings, museums, cultural festivals and lots more.
