"Depends where I'm staying but a bedside cabinet and a lamp are necessary!! Old school reading before sleep. " Ah yes, I have a couple of sets of bedside draws at the moment but these will have to go as a descent sized wardrobe will take up that space, I'm thinking of a couple of small tables or possibly some floating shelves, damn my king sized bed!

"Move house pretty much every three years so (we've) got furniture that is mismatched I hate it. But last year we finally bought all matching solid dark wood for out room. " Yes I am thinking matching solid wood, maybe not dark as the room is small

It's embarrassing as friends have to sleep on a blowup mattress or on the settee

"Was going to say auction house or sale rooms. I've picked some great pieces up over the years. Real wood and classic. Lime washed oak looks good in bedrooms with limited space" Might check it out

"Ikea. Modern houses tend to be built to common dimensions, just like modern furniture. It's amazing how often Ikea will have something that perfectly fills the exact space you have. Oh, and of course by going to Ikea you get an excuse to have a meatball lunch." Yeah as I said, been to ikea, consumed a meatball lunch but the wardrobes I liked didn't fit my room

"Do you have auctions near you ? They list their catalogue online too and you can get some great pieces of furniture fairly cheaply sometimes. I have a friend who will distress it or paint it in a colour of choice. Maybe you could do something similar. Sarah " Never been to an auction, the trouble with auctions is you have to know what your doing I never do

"IKEA" Love my ikea bedroom furniture. It's survived being shifted around including a house move since putting it together when I first bought it (7 years ago). How many pieces of flat pack furniture could you say the same of. Still looks as good as when I first bought it.

"Maybe consider it another way I don't know your sizes but if you got the spare room planned with good storage and a trundle bed You would have a room for guests Space for your non essential (you need to also clear out and vacuum store things to decrease the space they take) Then your master bedroom can have slightly less furniture but maximise use for the essential things you have to have available. Also beds with proper storage under them." I am going to get the spare room sorted but I do need proper furniture in my bedroom, I think I'm going to go for some nice solid oak furniture a wardrobe and matching draws. I'm going to get rid/freecycle the bedside draws I have now as there won't be any room for them and get some petite bedside tables. Then in the spare room I am going to get a load of ikea shelving get rid of the three open style clothes racks as I will have some where to put the clothes in my room and buy a trundle bed. Then job done

"Our bedroom is very small (historic house). For storage space, we have two bed bases on top of one another, each with for drawers. Well to be honest, they are not exactly for "conventional" storage. One does need a lot of space for things like PVC dresses, satin undies, stilettos, and of course the toy collection. Janet" That also sounds interesting, again perhaps I should come round and have a proper look
