I was lucky, when I moved house, I also moved my horse to a new livery yard where there are loads of great people I hang out with. So maybe take up a hobby that'll bring you into contact with others. You'll have something in common with them, which is always a good start!

I know someone who moved area and was struggling to make new friends. They joined a slimming club. Didn't particularly want to lose weight but just used it to meet people.

Meetup groups are pretty good for meeting people with similar interests. I tried them but realised I didn't like people.

When I moved to a new area I joined the gym and adult irish dancing classes.

I found the gym unproductive in the friendly stakes (maybe because i defo dont have the looks or body of Adonis).

However I made some great friends at the dancing and enjoyed the nights craic as well.

So try something similar like dancing as the relaxed atmosphere and fun are 2 good elements in forging new friendships.

I hope you settle well and the friendship thing happens soon for you. Good luck!

I moved from Devon to Merseyside last year and spent 6 months sat in a bedsit only seeing people at work or if I had managed to arrange a meet, then I started at a gym and met a few people which then led to a pub trip

Depending on the level of geekiness then maybe hunt out a comic store or indie games shop that you can go grab a coffee in
