"Toxoplasma gondii... It's a brain parasite that causes the cat's prey to become attracted to cats. This allows the cat to catch and eat the prey, in turn this allows the parasite to develop, it is then expelled in the cat's faeces where it ingested by the prey species completing it's life cycle. Research believe's that in humans it causes an exaggerated attraction to cats. It is estimated that between 30 and 50% of people in the developed world is infected... Hate is a very strong and those who use that saying i'd not want to get to know them. cats are amazing ![]() That's very offensive, why should you be able to shoot cats??? You are a sick person wishing to cause the death or serious injury and pain to an animal. It is against the law for a reason, it is wrong. Maybe the RSPCA should pay you a visit to discuss your cat murdering views. Also maybe the police should call round to discuss your wanting to shoot innocent things and check you don't have a gun. Think before you post.....

"I don't wish to hurt them, like I don't wish to hurt the rats or rabbits I shoot. The aim is a quick painless death. I would never shoot a cat as it is illegal as you said. Cat's, like squirrels, parakeet's are an invasive species. They decimate native birds, small mammals and reptiles. Unfortunately selfish people like yourself, inflict cats on the British wildlife and people with total disregard. I have had pets attacked and property damaged by cats being on my property against my wished. So I suggest that maybe you should get off your high horse and think before you post... ![]() Cats do what is natural to them. Men with guns, shooting any living creature, and killing it aren't. There is a need for balance, no it's not perfect but at least I have the strength of character to be able to kill something and put it on the table, unlike people who pretend they are superior because their meat comes from a factory. I take you would be happy to pay more for food to cover the cost of contaminated food due to rats. Rabbits cost the UK economy an estimated £100 million a year in damaged crops, they also cause countless horses and other animals to be destroyed due to them breaking a leg after stepping into a warren. How would you suggest we deal with these injured animals. Rabbits are another invasive species. It's funny how so called animal lovers only love the animals that fit in their neat little box. Total disregard for nature... Hunters and farmers are not perfect and don't pretend to be but in general they do far more for conservation of British wildlife than those high and mighty animal lovers in their armchairs...

I understand that some animals are treated as vermin, because they get in the way of human life. I'm getting a cat to catch the mice that want to poop on my kitchen. So I suggest that maybe you should get off your high horse and think before you post... ![]() Human beings are an invasive species!!!! We kill off natural habitat to make way for us to live, travel, work ect. We have killed off hundreds if not thousands of native wildlife. We introduced rabbits, grey squirals, parrots, deer and countless other species into our countryside. We killed off wild boar, wolves and native wild cats. That's just this country, countless others throughout the world. We have done this because we are a nasty, greedy, self obsessed species who believe that everything that is lower on the food chain has less of a right to live therefore we are free to kill it. Maybe we should be free to kill other humans who get in our way or damage our property? Oh that's right, it's against the law as we have rights!!! Most pet owners are responsible and do all they can to prevent their pets interfering with other people's way of life!!! I'd also be interested to know what pets you've had killed and property damaged by a cat??? ![]()

My chickens were attacked more than one occasion whilst out of their run roaming in my garden. The damage was caused when a cat got into my she'd and then couldn't get out out. It's stinking urine and excrement ruined property of mine, in my shed. To top it off the owner asked to borrow a blanket to take the cat home and never returned it. I don't have any problems with my neighbours as none of those a joining my property have cats... Erm, ever wishing to enlighten, I think latest estimates is that everybody harbours said parasite and experts believe it's linked to schizophrenia. Further to your other posts, I don't think you should allowed to shoot cats, unless they're attacking livestock you're raising such as chicks etc, but I do think owners should be held accountable for them. Afterall if a pet dog wondered in and out of peoples gardens at will the owner could expect a visit from the gendarmes.

All are/were petrified of the chickens and gave them a wide birth. Foxes, dogs and badgers attack chickens! All pet owners who don't neuter their pets should be shot! As for the chickens the neighbours probably hate the smell and the noise. Keeping chickens attracts rats also, not something neighbours tend to like. Rats will attack chickens while they are docile at night. Cats will also kill the rats. I'd be tempted to look at something other than cats for attacking chickens, they are too much hassle for a cat plus fully capable of protecting themselves against a cat. I've seen my chickens attack a full grown male pheasant and win!! I'd look a little closer to home with regards to what attacked your chickens!

"I would say that cats are more useful than dogs,as pets." Why? Contrary to popular belief cats don't attack rats, they're too big for them (obviously ditto for chickens) and only attack them when they "badger" them due to having above parasite. A dog will stay by you through thick and thin while a cat is only interested in you if you feed it. Don't claim they're affectionate either because they just brush by you to scent mark you has theirs and their pee stinks to high heaven, horrible creatures.

" Why? Contrary to popular belief cats don't attack rats, they're too big for them (obviously ditto for chickens) and only attack them when they "badger" them due to having above parasite." Rubbish - several of my cats have had rats. It's also well documented that medieval plagues - which were spread by the fleas that lived on rats - caused more devastation after huge numbers of cats were killed in the mistaken belief of the time that they were Satan's instruments, harbingers of evil etc. Fewer cats = more rats = more opportunity for plague to spread.

"I would say that cats are more useful than dogs,as pets. Why? Contrary to popular belief cats don't attack rats, they're too big for them (obviously ditto for chickens) and only attack them when they "badger" them due to having above parasite. A dog will stay by you through thick and thin while a cat is only interested in you if you feed it. Don't claim they're affectionate either because they just brush by you to scent mark you has theirs and their pee stinks to high heaven, horrible creatures. " I have cats for mice, spiders and moths; I don't get rats. My dog pees everywhere. I had cats for years and my house didn't stink of pee. The dog is getting a stern warning to buck his ideas up and sort himself out,or he's living in the garden. He does bark though, whenever he hears any noise. Good for deterring burglars, not good for my nerves. Women get cats because they are less hassle than a man.

![]() ![]() Quite clearly the cat I saw go for one of my chickens was a fox, badger, weasel etc in fancy dress...Yes the other two chickens saw it off, didn't stop it trying again though... Deliberately locking a cat in my shed! What are you on??? It climbed through an open window and then couldn't get out again. Like many people that shoot, I have no time for animal cruelty, unlike many cat owners that think it's OK to keep 20 cats locked in a flat or cages... My neighbours all liked my chickens and enjoyed free eggs... Funnily enough there are rats everywhere. If I see a rat in my garden I will do my best to shoot it. Which is a damn sight quicker than the poison many of you would resort to. Please don't try to tell me what I know, I am no expert but clearly have more knowledge and understanding of nature than many of you, going by your posts...

Its not your job or your right to kill them though. By your own admission you are a 'hunter', so I'm presuming its extends further than your back garden? What's your justification for actively going out seeking to kill animals that pose no threat to you and your family?

Hate is a very strong and those who use that saying i'd not want to get to know them. cats are amazing ![]() You are legally allowed to shoot feral cats , they are vermin . I don't think cat lovers/owners often consider what's it's like to not particularly like cats and have them roam around your garden shitting whenever they want ... Think of people with small children going for a play in the garden coming back with a face full of cat shit .. and that's not to mention what they do to the wild bird population . If people want cats as pets then they should be house pets or controlled to be restricted to the confines of your garden, your pet your responsibility at all times. Personally cats get right on my tits I clean my car, get up the next morning to find paw prints all over the bloody thing .. I was going out the other day got in my car to find I had trodden in cat shit , why do I have to be ok with your pet cat shitting wherever it wants in my garden ?? You wouldn't let a dog do it would you , but then dogs have a lot more protection than cats also because they are deemed more of a domesticated pet .i.e if you run over a cat there is no need to report it unlike a dog . I guess I just don't get the whole cat thing to me they aren't loyal they are never really your pet they just follow the best source of food because deep down they are all feral and it will never be bread out of them .

Food, crop protection, protection of native species, disease control, livestock protection. In all likelihood flu off a door handle is unlikely to kill a member of my family. Leptospirosis or Weil's disease is more likely to cause serious illness and even death... Have you ever seen a rabbit with myxomatosis? I suppose you would leave it to suffer... When I walk to the station in the morning I often see cats roaming the streets. Ithe is quite clear that many cat owners chuck their cats out at night with total disregard to the outcome... What I don't do is go off into the countryside and kill things for enjoyment. It is fundamentally wrong and has no impact on any problems people try to justify it by claiming.

Sorry to break it to you but you and your gun are having zero impact on population control. You are not providing a service. You are doing it purely for your enjoyment of killing something. break it to me because you know absolutely everything about pest control ,vermin control and gamekeeping ... I'm not talking about going out and popping off ten rabbits with an Airgun . 200-300 rabbits a night possibly three or four nights a week . im not getting into an argument about it because we are obviously never going to read from the same page . Dunno who I feel more sorry for; the rabbits or you spending your life doing that :/" You see you sheltered types that don't live in the country , live the country wouldn't understand .. i was doing it a lot at the time because I was helping my friend out who is a gamekeeper and his underkeeper was ill at the time . From being out in the middle of nowhere at two three maybe 4 in the morning. I've seen more wildlife than you could imagine . I quite often go down to marshland and sit on my own and take in what's around me I look around and there is not a person for miles it's perfect ... Don't feel sorry for me old boy, feel sorry for people that have never seen the night sky without the light pollution from a million city lights
