It's not often I make a tribute thread for a forumite, but I'm kinda taken with her elfin prettiness, her eyes twinkle and smile glows in every pic.

I felt that kind of sparkle deserved it's own thread

Oh gawd.

I feel a bit damned if I do damned if I don't!

She seems like a lovely lady but why the need of a public affirmation ~ if it all goes tits up she'll have to read comments she didn't ask for.

Doesn't sit well with me I'm afraid.

I'm not offended but I don't get the need for a public declaration. If others don't feel the same & say so you have no control over that & she gets to read all about it.

It's confrontational if it attacks the purpose of the thread - because it leads to confrontation.

The thread was intended as a pleasant tribute to someone I like, now we're arguing on it - stay classy fab.

Hey all.

Let's all chill out a bit.

OP created this thread with good intentions.

Admittedly, it hasn't worked out and it's probably not the best way of going about his appreciation for a fellow fabster.

Shit happens.

Anyway, far more important things on right now, like the Olympic tennis final

Have a nice evening all x

If I made a thread saying how great someone is and someone asked why I would fill the page with why or else I wouldn't bother making a special thread.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Basically, if it's a female saying they don't like threads like this then they MUST be jealous. If it's a man they MUST be a white knight.

There have been jokey threads praising individuals (e.g. Funky's bum) but when someone is singled out as having such qualities that no one else possesses that they deserve their own thread it feels creepy to me. A bit stalkerish (regardless of who posts it, this is not a dig at the OP but the genre).

Some may well wish there was a thread about them but I can't see why, personally.

You wanted a thread where people agreed with you, perhaps heaped praise on you for identifying this special gem in among the old fat blobs like me and added to the praise for your chosen one.

Don't blame it on it being Fab that it hasn't gone that way. It's a public forum and the likelihood is that it would have gone this way wherever you posted it.

I have to agree with Scarlet. I once had someone post a status asking me to get in touch with them because they were outside my filters. However well intentioned, the subsequent messages I got and the attention it brought to me locally when I have deliberately removed myself from local search parameters wasn't something I enjoyed in the slightest. There is a reason statuses naming other members aren't allowed. I would therefore find a public thread about me more embarrassing and awkward than flattering.

You're entirely wrong. No praise was sought by me from either the forums or the person I posted for - I did it, purely on a whim, for someone I liked the look of. I could have said it in PM, but why not just do it on the forums instead - because why not?

There was nothing wrong with my intention, only in how people responded to it. This thread has indeed been extremely embarrassing, not for me, but for the shameful, childish conduct of certain posters, who judging from some of these comments, isn't something solely witnessed by myself.

I'll simply say that if people don't like the thread, ignore it. Alternatively, keep showing yourselves up for the lurkers, it's little wonder we get so few new posters in here.

She seems like a lovely lady but why the need of a public affirmation ~ if it all goes tits up she'll have to read comments she didn't ask for.

I feel exactly the same as this ..

It's a smoke blowing exercise that the recipient may not be comfortable with

And if she is comfortable, the typical forum naysayers will make sure she isn't.

I suppose the thought of a woman getting the pleasant surprise of seeing how many guys fancy her was too much for some.

I suppose you thought that by starting a thread headlined with the person you are so besotted with would give you shagging rights? Maybe it's too much for her too... haven't seen her comment yet "

Alternatively, keep showing yourselves up for the lurkers, it's little wonder we get so few new posters in here."

You are so completely disillusioned its untrue. People don't do this because it is cringey....to be on the receiving end of public adoration when it isn't reciprocated is highly highly embarrassing. That is why people don't do it....and is why people object to it.

I don't think anyone is complaining about the person named. Feeling empathy for the discomfiture it may potentially cause is closer to the truth.
