This blocking thing.

Just browsing the forums as you do and came across a thread to a post I found interesting so clicked on the profile and found we were blocked.

Now.

The person had recently posted so admin couldn't have suspended.

We haven't blocked them.

They live in Ireland so we wouldn't have appeared on local updates.

We have not chatted to them before in fact do not even recognise the avatar.

We personally do not know anyone who actually lives in that part of Ireland.

Baffles us. Although no skin off our noses.

They may have browsed farther afield than local, come across your profile and decided you're not for them, and so blocked you to avoid wasting time in future if they did the same thing again. Who cares. You're not local to them

We know this happens. But does this serve any purpose whatsoever? As if you actually know, you can still see thread updates.

We didn't actually recognise them as a forum regular either. We do block and normally people who tend to be not what we are looking for and local. Especially those that leave rather laborious and needy statuses just so that they don't show in updates. Each to their own

Tbh I think blocking if you don't look their forum posts & have no inclination to meet is a tad pointless as they can still interact.

If I'm feeling mischievous I'll seek to reply & quote on one of their posts

We've both had single profiles before. It's not just a couples thing as you have suggested. In fact one of us still does. It's just a discussion point and if people wish to discuss their personal experiences then that's what it all about.

I've been unblocked recently by a couple of forum users.

I don't know (or care) why they blocked me but I'm vaguely curious what made them change their mind.

I've not been curious enough to ask though.

Sometimes I'll counter-block when someone blocks me and it's pretty much a permanent thing. I rarely remove a block once I've done it.

Sometimes I don't though. It depends on a number of things.

I don't care if people block me. I certainly don't take it as a fuck you.

I think the forum is a good arena to showcase ones personality for good & occasionally for bad.

However, it's the Internet, we can all be whoever we want to be, play a character for example so I for one reserve judgment on people until we've met in person.

Exactly. I'm just a normal person wanting to have fun, a laugh and some interesting conversation as well as broadening my horizons. If we were all alike, it would be so boring. I don't know how people perceive me from my profile bio and pics, but if they choose to block me just from that, then so be it.

If they block without saying anything, that's no problem.

I don't think many people understand my sense of humour and never mind the fora, I don't think a guidebook would help!

People say I'm different in person but I'm not really. I only seem different because others tend not, in person, to say the sort of shit some spout on here. If they did, my reaction would be exactly the same.

So to the Forum

That's true. People an assume what you are like by your profile and block for that reason.

The forum is great for people to understand other people's sense of humour and character. Isn't that right Knitter? Who was a tad scared of me but now knows I'm a cuddly bear. Oh forgot she's d*unk on another thread and probably fallen asleep now. . Mr L.

I think the forum is a good arena to showcase ones personality for good & occasionally for bad.

However, it's the Internet, we can all be whoever we want to be, play a character for example so I for one reserve judgment on people until we've met in person.

"

Speaking on behalf of Ms Myth who will concur. We can both hold varied, decent conversations, both as daft as a brush sometimes and don't take ourselves seriously.

Which can now answer the question of why block because of a singular reply on a thread or you're not sure on profile. At least give people the chance to give a little bit of an insight into who they are.

"I mainly get blocked by women, especially when I've met their man! It's crazy as we all share each other.

I have recently been unblocked though by someone rather nice

Do you still like them though as they did initially block you?

I take blocking on here as the virtual equivalent of a 'fuck you'

So am interested in others POV's.

I didn't know them. Had deleted a message as had too many to reply to months ago. It's only since I've started to chat here, that we have started to talk.

I hardly ever block, you would need to piss me off big time for me to do that.

I was merely commenting on your observation of understanding another's sense of humour / character which I don't believe can be truly explored on a website.

Someone always have to bring up food.

Great starter from the 80's served in a goblet glass or if really posh half a scallop shell.

Served on a bed of lettuce with a a slice of cucumber maybe tomato and a wedge of lemon. Touched off with a sprinkle of paprika a sprig of curly parsley with brown bread and butter cut into triangles on the side.

I've segued haven't I? Back in the room.

I fail to understand what the big deal is, unless you are unable to comment on a thread because that constitutes attempting to circumvent a block.

Anyway, you aren't "Anybody" until "Somebody" has blocked you daaarling!!!

I hate these threads that mention blocking. I always go through everyone that's posted and discover I've been blocked by at least 5 new people.

Just taking this opportunity to say I think forum blocks are pointless, you can still see what I'm writing you loons. Oh and when they try and dress it up by saying oh you wouldn't be someone I'd want to meet it's like as if I would meet you anyway half of you are birds and I ain't even a lesbian!

Well I can't be offensive enough either as I've only even known one person to block me because of the forums.....or maybe I just don't look at many profiles so don't realise lol!

I only usually block people who hassle me, but I did once block someone on the forums just for being, um, let's say deeply unappealing.
