Right.... after the last 3 days thinking I had starter motor issues... it turns out that is not the case.

A brand new starter motor (Tested and fully working too) was put on the car, and still had the same issues.... nothing on key.

So, next step, we bridged the earth to the car, and hey presto.... the damn thing started.... but only ONCE! we cleaned the earth strap, tried to start and NOTHING... not even working by bridging it.

So we then went onto the live wires, unclipped and had a direct to the starter, again hey presto.... started.... but only ONCE!

Now we are thinking possible relay problem?

Tried EVERYTHING possible this evening to get the damn thing running..... but all out of ideas?

Can ANYONE possibly think of anything we may have missed?

Randomly

Check battery isnt collapsing under load

Solenoid.. does it make no noise? Or a click, or clicks?

That's what I'd check first.

This doesn't explain why it worked by bridging..... both ways and worked only once..... there seems to be a bad connection of some sort, but I'm fucked if I can find it....

Got to agree with ace. Can you get it run through a diagnostics?

Try googling the make model and problem, certain makes and models suffer from similar problems so its often easier to diagnose if that applies to your symptoms...

I did it recently for a Transit gears not selecting and ended up watching vids on youtube showing the complete repair that cost me nothing but would have been 200squid at a dealers...

"Nope... just does its normal thing "

Same engine as Transit, had same symptons and was the temp sender behind top pulley so just checking...

Get it plugged in and read for fault codes, costs about £25 around here, will lead you straight to problem ...

xx

When it started is it possible that it was just coincidence that it was bridged at the time? It seems likely

check solonied is it working (should be new with new starter ) change solenoid

check relay by replacement ?

check ignition barrel conections ?

if still not working get an auto electrtion in

Shame your not local I have a diagnostic, it definitely sounds electrical rather than mechanical. Sounds like you've eliminated the obvious.
