...dead at the age of 64! Sounds like a heart attack - "sudden short illness". From the photo's he looked quite healthy, too. All that money and he still couldn't escape the Grim Reaper. Actually he was quite a decent fella - he gave £500K to local farmers during the Foot-and-Mouth outbreak a few years ago. Still, if you own half of London I suppose he could afford it.

Was he the man who wouldn't send his children to boarding school because he hated it so much? I liked him just for that reason.

His 25 yr old offspring is now the third richest man in the country. Let's hope he doesn't do a Jamie Blandford

Just goes to show that money can't buy health.

This kind of thing scares the shit out of me because that's my dads age.

I only know of him through the Times rich list and the notable areas of land he owned / inherited,

64 is no age , I'd hazard a guess he'd haveswapped massive amounts of his wealth for good health. far more important than wealth ,

rip .

You mean buy a three door Cosworth and take it to Brodie Britain Racing and then get plastered all over the Sun being a tit getting pissed up doing drugs??

That's what most people would do if they were 25 and worth 8.5 billion lol

Not to me he didn't: he looked gaunt and ill. Always seem to have an air of sadness about him to me.

Why be scared of the inevitable though? People die from natural causes at every age. My son didn't make it to your age, can't live your life scared shitless: exercise in futility.

My mum met him through work and she said he was one of the most genuine people she has ever met; he insisted on being called Gerald, remembered everyone's name and after finding out I was in the army always asked after me.

Lol scares you! My dad was one of SEVEN brothers none lived past 64 & my dad went at 61 after having to take early retirement at 56 due to bad health.

But two died in the same car crash & all the others were life long rolly smokers.

Hence I've never smoked..might last a few extra years!!
