"Who else agrees that the new Rocky Horror looks like a tainted abomination? Yep. Female frank n furter....wtf Noooo that would make a completely mockery of the play, oxymoron I know!, or would she wear men's clothes? Can a women be a sweet transvestite?" It's Laverne Cox. She's trans.

She's trans. " THIS is my issue with the remake. We are still, sadly, too early in the trans journey to have cast a Trans woman as Frank. People are making the crass assumption that because LC is trans she is an open target for cheap shots about 'sweet transvestites'. Although trans visibility is better than it was, it is still not great. There are so many misconceptions - which IS mostly ok as it is a massive umbrella term and 'trans' means so many things to so many people. Apart from that, my other bug bear with the remake is that it looks SO much like a studio set. The JOY of the film is it's ramshackle nature (which is a lot to do with the budget they had at the time), that is it's - forgive the quote - "naive charm". This looks, frankly (no pun) far too American and 'staged' and dull AF

Not really hopeful but it's as expected for a polished studio remake. It might be fun and if it gets a whole new audience interested then cool.

"Rocky shaped many aspects of my life so I'm precious about it. Frank can be (and has been) played by any gender, since any gender can be a transvestite. I love Laverne but she looks too glamorous, it all does. They're aliens who have cobbled together an idea of human luxury living on a budget. Making it look slick makes a mockery of the heart of the story " Hear Hear!

She is transexual, not a tranvestite. So many people are already confused between the difference and this casting would just add to that confusion. I know so many trans people who refuse to go see it just because they feel insulted by this casting. Also there can only be one Frankenfurter, One RifRaf and one Eddie. The new people who will watch this are most likely the people who won't even watch the original, and always say that the new one is better, as I have seen so many people do in the past with remakes

It might be so incredibly shit that people hate it. Think Ghostbusters... I think the people that don't know the difference between transexual and transvestite wouldn't be educated at this point anyway.

"Am not nit picking over LC's gender, am nit picking over the a-holes who can't see past it and then get a skewed idea of transness. And mostly (can't think of a single time when not) on tour - certainly within the UK - Frank has been played by a cis man. It would be great if it was no issue, but we aren't there yet. I really DO think it has been cast for cynical reasons, LC included - sadly. Why not cast a trans woman as Janet/Columbia/Magenta? " True. I'm cynical, cynical about the whole thing. Just pointing out that trans women continue to play with the concepts of gender (look up my mates Lucy Fizz and Grace Oni Smith) which can only be a good thing? Especially something so mainstream. Either way, it looks parp

"Sorry guys but picking hairs over Laverne's gender is irrelevant. As I've said, women have played Frank on stage. I've spent the last 14 years performing as a female drag queen and know quite a few trans women who perform as drag queens. Things are changing. " Perfectly valid reasoning there. But here's another way to look at it. The stage shows and even drag events are only shown to a small crowd of people. Mostly, the people who go see these shows already know the difference between drag queen, transvestite, and transexual. However, the movie would be on access to a worldwide audience, mainly to the people who do not know the difference, and can also be accessed by future generations who may also end up becoming confused about the difference because of these thing .
