I would not just say for single parents, bringing up a child for anyone is hard work. If you're alone yes its obviously harder but doesnt make it easy for a couple

Oh it is hard when they see us as people with all of our inevitable flaws and we all do, no one is perfect, the fact that you are trying is more than enough.......all you can be is a 'good enough parent' a great guy once said Didicott I think

It's harder work when the other parent virtually disappears from their lives and your child thinks it's something they have done wrong. I've spent 2 years reassuring my little girl that she hadn't done anything to make her dad go away. It's very hard seeing that pain your child is going through and not being able to take it away was what I meant

Having gone through difficult times with my ex being an absent parent I realised that I couldn't make my ex have the relationship with our child that I believed our child deserved. I did everything I could to facilitate and support their relationship whilst ensuring that I was the 'constant' - always there, steady, reliable, security etc

It really isn't easy when your cHild is asking if their Dad is dead because they just disappeared

Or the child is facing up to how unreliable the other parent is - lying etc

I always answered the questions and I think that and lots of love, reassurance and normality got us through

feel a bit crap and frustrated.. ive always wanted them to have some kind of bond...

she adores the idea of a dad and worships the toy dog he won for her once at the arcade. She named it after him and goes to bed every night with it..

and now she picks up that he really doesnt have the time of day for her and she is the one hurting..

i feel guilty for trying to force a relationship when he clearly never gave a toss,, so indirectly she's suffering because i never gave up on their bond as quick as he did

Parenting is really, really hard at times, it's one of the few things we learn 'on the job' so to speak.

Remember the hard times don't last too long, think back to what was hard previously, somehow it worked itself out & you moved on, do you see what I'm getting at?

I have had challenge after challenge with my son, teenage hormones are really something!!

Big hugs

xx

not to long. From the age of two to 26 so far for me, getting them through childhood then teenage years, then a young adult, getting them back on the rails if they fall off. Supporting them through relationship break ups. Sometimes just being by their side is challenging enough
