"I work for a call centre talking about mortgages so I see a lot of this going on. I don't personally talk about my mortgage or the repayments to my friends or family but that's a personal choice. Obviously I can't discuss specific accounts or situations but I see a lot of people who have to re mortgage because of other debts or loans that get them in trouble. The interest only ones are difficult because customers have already cashed in endowments etc an now have no repayment plan for the big lump sum. You have done a sensible thing by going with a mortgage that you know you can pay each month without worrying about it too much. " Thanks (re the sensible comment).. I like to think so. At times I'd bloody love a drive way / garage etc. I suppose it's getting the right balance. A friend of mine bought at peak price time - on 100% mortgage interest only - I wouldn't like to be in that situation as his mortgage is much more than his house is worth. (Albeit he's in a bloody lovely house!)

"Come on now people. This is supposed to be a swingers site. Let's keep it dirty please folks. " Oh damn... I've got my forums mixed up. I best delete the post "would you let another guy fuck your wife in the ass" off Martin Lewis' money saving expert.

"It's a form of bragging - my unsustainable debt is bigger than yours." Correct

"I'm kind of the odd one out.. they all bought huge houses (with huge mortgages) and I opted for a tiny (modest) terraced with a mortgage that's very low each month. My head spins when I hear what they pay per month! Spins even more when I work out the interest!" This is me too. Except my friends all rent big expensive houses. They couldnt believe how much my mortgage is and in even cheaper now. Quite happy in my little house cause i can afford to keep adding and investing. I know if i lost my job i could still afford it on a low paid one. I dont like money worries so its works out better for me xx

"It's a form of bragging - my unsustainable debt is bigger than yours." Not always, my friends and I discuss and share all things financial whenever a change costs or saves us money or we are having a problem or need to make a decision. This is not in any way bragging, it is sharing information so that we can all get the best deals available. Which is a major part of what friendship is about.

"Amongst my friends there seems to be no qualms with talking very openly about cost of houses and amounts left on mortgages etc. Is this standard? I was kind of brought up believing that kind of chit chat to be private. " Only 1 son and my FWB know what I owe on my mortgage and what I pay. I don't discuss it as a rule XXX

Swapping financial information is a major part of friendship? For you maybe.

I think he's referring to the benefits of discussing Mortage rates etc. I do find it useful at times but also like to not reveal too much personal info.

"I try to avoid it, as my mortgage is paid off and it's hard not to look like an arsehole when your friends have big mortgages. However, I am usually able to lighten the mood by pointing out that as we live in the North we haven't got it too bad " Once I've paid mine off I think I'll have a specially printer t-shirt saying "mortgage'less!" with an arrow to me! Haha
