Inter family marrage

I have been reading a few article's on disabilities. The practice of marriage to 1st cousins and 2nd cousins appears to cause some awful conditions. should the government step in to stop it as realigns won't ?

You can marry your cousin's perfectly legally, I know some who have, genetically the chances of abnormalities are negligible.... I'm guessing for thousands of years humans have done it alot already anyhow, at this stage in the game I think it really won't matter that much

We know its legal but is it ethical to knowingly enter into a relationship with the knowledge your children will be many time more likley to suffer.

Many times more likely doesn't mean it's likely if you start from practically nothing, it just means there's a very very small chance but far less than having children at 40 .... Should we banjo over 40s as well, what about people with hereditary genetic abnormalities!.... Fuck it let's go all Nazi and just say blonde haired blue eyed people who only live 300 miles apart!.

Direct blood relatives is not allowed for the genetic problems, cousins are, sure it's frowned upon in some societies but honestly from what I've read in the past, it's really not that problematic and like I said less problematic than women in their 40s

Researchers have concluded that the cultural practice of marriage between first cousins is a bigger factor than any other – outweighing the effects of deprivation in parts of Bradford, where the study was carried out. Marriage to a blood relative accounted for nearly a third (31%) of all birth defects in babies of Pakistani origin."

Most people have children because they want children, it's never because they think of the interest of that child when it's born (although that tends to occur naturally in some people after the birth itself).

I don't think it's anyones right to stop people from loving who they want or who they reproduce with, even if their are advantages with that. I do think how we were progressing to cope with problems after that fact, or even before them without restricting anyone, was working well.

it says pakistani because the research was trying to find out why that community had higher birth defect rates..there have been similar studies that have shown the same in cultures where its very common to marry first cousins. in cultures where this isnt common,the numbers are negligble,and nowadays cousins marrying will often have testing for any hereditary conditions..the old fashioned stigma was there for a reason originally..
