Laure Berthaud. Saga Norén. William Murdoch are recent faves. Plus both Benedict Cumberbatch and Johnny Lee Miller's versions of Sherlock Homes (Cumberbatch wins). I loved the Margaret Rutherford Miss Marple too.

And I think you'll find there's been many variations of Shelock Holmes on TV, plus people have already mentioned Sherlock Holmes films played by Robert Downey JR so I fail to see the point you're raising.
