I know it's the early hours of Saturday morning and a lot of folk have 1 of those social life thingymabobs, and some have work, but damn it a feel life the only sad git stuck at home alone awake!!

Dans nocturnal role call used to be right laugh! Even on weekend nights we'd hit 2 or 3 threads. I've been away and now they've stopped.

Yep that was me in my 20's...can remember coming off night shift, going straight on a booze cruise and not getting home till early hours the next day...up at 9 to travel to Derby for football...then home and out nightclubbing....that'd kill me these days!!

Haven't done it for a while (which has now put the mockers on for my next night out in London!!)....but used to do it on a regular basis, and usually ended up somewhere that didn't have a cab office!!

Mind you had a friend once after an afternoon drinking session got on a train to Wolverhampton and ended up in Preston!!

My trick was always staying for one last drink in some club - honestly, just one - and then having to run for the Tube only to miss the last Central Line train. And then having to either night bus it - yuk - splash for a cab, or wait for the morning Tube. Home. shower, change, back on Tube to work.

The other option was always to try and find someone to take me back with them, which worked more often than you'd think. Some very interesting situations. Worst was when a group of Danish girls invited me back to their hotel - I was only 21 myself- and the bastard middle-aged concierge wouldn't let me up.

Tried everything, even bribery, but he called security on me instead. Bet he loved ruining my evening. I prayed for ages after that his dick turned black and dropped off one morning in mid-pee.

Even after all these years, it's still one of the biggest disappointments of my life. I look back and wonder what if? Hell, I'd have settled for a night of flirting and suggestive banter. Wasn't to be though. They went home two days later.

Surprisingly, despite my best efforts and most heartfelt prayers, no group of female students, Danish or otherwise - have invited back with them since. I still live in hope though

Me too, sadly. I'm actually preparing for it though. I'm reading up on feminist theory and the Suffragette movement, just in case I have to rely on the OU's Open University team for shelter one night.
