Why do some men state that they are athletic when they're clearly not? In fact I've seen more meat on a butcher's apron??

I'm not knocking men that don't have the athletic look but surely we will see in your pics that that's a lie?

I'm not slim and neither am I large so I would describe myself as average

Come on guys get real

Define athletic? I'd say I was athletic in its truest sense. I'm big. I've got muscles in all the right places. But I'm a tight head prop for a London 1 rugby team.

I still pass fitness tests for work and club, definitely stronger and fitter than some of the skinny Minnies who class themselves as athletic. Just there's a little paunch below the pectorals.

In other words I don't do bad for someone who's 120kg. But I can't class myself athletic as I don't look athletic. That's fair!

Jeezzuss!!... Count me confused now.

I got classed as athletic when assessed. So did another fella that trained on muscle building rather than cardio' (basically bigger than me). I took that as meaning we were both fit in regard to our physical and cardio states and relating to our body shape. Am I wrong then?

I regard athletic as having visible toned muscles. Someone can be athletic at the same time as being slim, average or large build. But some people are slim, but not particularly toned, therefore I would not describe them as athletic. I describe myself as average, because I am of average build, don't have the muscle tone to describe myself as athletic, and don't have the curves (ie bum and boobs) to describe myself as curvy.

"It seems as though a lot of men think skinny is athletic, they really should put in a muscular option aswell for guys, just so the skinny people can't choose it "

Muscular people aren't necessarily athletic. Athletic has more to do with ability rather than looks so in reality the term can be used widely.

What's the point of being 20st of muscle when you can't even do 10 pull ups or run a mile without having a heart attack.

I'm not putting you down or anything at all like that. Your body is great. However, I am wondering what age has to do with it? Surely anyone at any age can be athletic....long as they work out. "

I mean that compared to most 49 year olds I am athletic but compared to a lot of the chaps on here I'm probably not. According to you I'm not athletic then as I've never worked out in my life...I bet there are plenty of gym regulars who are anything but athletic...but good for them for having a go.

Asking people to be more truthful isn't a bad thing. Lost count with the amount of guys who message me knowing they don't fit my profile. Being honest on here saves time wasting and shows respect.

The trouble is "athletic" isn't a body shape it's a fitness level. It can mean anything from thin as a rail long distance runner to strong man bulk. It's about as descriptive as "fabulous".

Not quite sure what the OP has done wrong. She put a question to the forum as to why men describe themselves as athletic when they are not. It's a fair question, and its obviously something that was of interest to the OP, and others are also clearly interested enough otherwise they wouldn't contribute to her thread. But her question was responded to that how people describe their body shape was not doing her any harm. I'm sure she didn't for one minute think that it was doing her any harm. We all have idle curiosities, about things that are not important, but it's fun to chat about them. Nobody is forced to join in a thread that they regard as a pointless question. I also see no evidence that the OP is dictating how others use this website, and she certainly didn't claim on this thread that she is an expert on this subject.

LOL another sensitive soul on here. I didn't say anything about going to the gym to work out. Working out to keep a trim body can be done anywhere. Even working within a vigorous manual type job, brisk walking or working out at home etc etc. Most 49 years old actually do still look great and in shape. Hunny, you aren't unique.

"It seems as though a lot of men think skinny is athletic, they really should put in a muscular option aswell for guys, just so the skinny people can't choose it

Muscular people aren't necessarily athletic. Athletic has more to do with ability rather than looks so in reality the term can be used widely.

What's the point of being 20st of muscle when you can't even do 10 pull ups or run a mile without having a heart attack. "

Any professional athlete with the exception of maybe marathon runners are usually muscular therefore athletic is muscular, I'm not necessarily talking about bodybuilder muscular here

Remember everyone a skinny guy with abs is like a fat chick with big tits, it doesn't really count

If people aren't aware that certain adjectives used commonly on this site are open to interpretation then that must be considered a little naive.

The word athletic in a man's profile can mean anything from a marathon runner's physique right up to your hairy arsed shot putter. Just depends on the sport really doesn't it?

The word curvy on a woman's profile can also vary from slender hour glass figure right up to morbidly obese.

So we can either check their pics out and see for ourselves or just avoid anyone with these obscure words in their profile altogether. Simples

Thank you classy swingers for your feedback and you're right I wasn't trying to offend anyone but as someone else pointed out there's some sensitive souls on here that seem to take certain threads as a personal attack on them

So if someone makes a comment aimed directly at you then you shouldn't reply as that makes you a 'sensitive soul'...oh I forgot the rules for a second.

Of course not, people have every right to defend themselves when something has be said about them that is not nice or not true.

Not so thou. Being called a bitch is ok "

Yes she shouldn't have retaliated in that manner to the poster who seemed to put her down at the beginning of the thread. It would have been better for her defend her position. But the OP certainly never claimed to be an expert, nor was she dictating how Fab should be used.

I'm not knocking men that don't have the athletic look but surely we will see in your pics that that's a lie?

Average is skewed more towards large than slim, so your photos show you to be a lot fitter than average

No double standards as far as I'm concerned. I did say people shouldn't retaliate in that manner. How was your first post a put down? Maybe it wasn't intended that way, but what you said jarred with me, and it wasn't even said to me. I personally would be quite upset if I put an innocent question to the forum and somebody says something like 'it doesn't do you any harm', or 'it doesn't matter' or 'it doesn't effect you'. I see people respond to forum questions like that a lot, and it usually causes a reaction from whoever the OP is. When people respond to an forum question like that it comes across to me as dismissive and as though the OP shouldn't be asking the question.

I suppose it depends on what athletic is, I know plenty of muscular guys who can't run 500m, last 90 mins on a football field, swim 10 lengths.

I consider myself somewhat athletic as I play several sports, try to keep in shape, and go to the gym regularly.

Indeed! With the written word people have to be so careful how something may be read by others. And you are very right. I have seen a similar thread where a male OP was asking why women choose to categorise their body types in certain ways and he was practically crucified by a number of female posters. I felt very sorry for him because I didn't think he was offensive.

I think the definition of athletic has probably changed over the years. if you look at athletes in the past they were always toned but generally slim, in more recent years athletes have become bulkier (especially sprinters) and it is probably this that fuels the expectation of what athletic is

I also see no evidence that the OP is dictating how others use this website, and she certainly didn't claim on this thread that she is an expert on this subject.

Being called a bitch is ok

Yes she shouldn't have retaliated in that manner to the poster who seemed to put her down at the beginning of the thread. It would have been better for her defend her position. But the OP certainly never claimed to be an expert, nor was she dictating how Fab should be used.

Asking how it harms her is putting her down? And it was aimed at me. Right you are. The double standards on here is shocking at times

Well as its only words on a screen no one ever knows what context its meant in and shows how easy ppl can take comments the wrong way. As for double standards. If a guy was an op and posted why do women on fab use slim/curvy etc when there not it would course outrage. Ive noticed the women on fab all stick together so you jumping to the op defence dont surprise me one bit.

Its called white knighting in male terms

Indeed! With the written word people have to be so careful how something may be read by others. And you are very right. I have seen a similar thread where a male OP was asking why women choose to categorise their body types in certain ways and he was practically crucified by a number of female posters. I felt very sorry for him because I didn't think he was offensive."

"I suppose it depends on what athletic is, I know plenty of muscular guys who can't run 500m, last 90 mins on a football field, swim 10 lengths.

I consider myself somewhat athletic as I play several sports, try to keep in shape, and go to the gym regularly.

Probably would describe my body as average though in all fairness

I would offer an opinion, but your thumbnail pic is too small and the other one looks like a ghost picture!

I'll add some more just for you guys "

Nah, you are not average, you can wear the FAB athletic badge with pride!

"I'm down as fabulous!

Why should only the big girls be described so!? "

I always thought fabulous was another way of saying you didn't fit into another category?

I'm pretty sure people can decide my body type when they look at my photos.. I'm big, fat, overweight curvy, BBW, whatever others wanna describe me as...I can't even remember what I settled on as my description.

And OP athletic can be slim like a sprinter, big like a rugby player, top heavy like a swimmer, leg heavy like a cyclist. Not all athletes look the same!

But hey you was the one making a thread about your singles account and getting none from that account. Next time when your trying to be clever get your facts right. Ta ta "

Not sure what sticking up for people has to do with getting meets or shags. If somebody says something careless, that I know would offend me had it been said to me, I will often stick up for the person on the receiving end, and hopefully the person who said what they said will realise that what they said was taken the wrong way, and therefore be more careful next time. I've Stick up for women and I've up for men too. Gender for me has nothing to do with it. If a man sticks up for a woman, he may be doing it with an ulterior motive, or he may just be being nice. Who knows. I'd prefer to think he's just being nice.
