Going to places by yourself...

Meh.

I'm really used to going places on my own in my own company, but today I just want to go to the beach and find a spot to read.

Would you think that someone just sat on the beach by themselves would look a bit weird, or is it perfectly normal and I'm just being paranoid?

I would say it's perfectly 'normal' (whatever normal is).

You'll often see lots of people on their own sitting on a beach and relaxing in whatever way suits them best and, besides, who is anyone else to judge you, just go for it and enjoy the sunshine while it lasts.

Just go, people will be too busy enjoying the sun themselves to notice.

I can usually go anywhere and sit and read! Once you get used to it, you don't care and it's really relaxing! Enjoy!

I'm asking because I have issues with anxiety and I don't like being seen out in public by myself in situations like that.

Comments like yours don't exactly help.

Now and then when I get me time I've often jumped on a train to Skegness and found a nice spot on the beach and just sat there reading and people watching

I've travelled across the world alone. I just don't pay attention to others. If they want to stare, let em. They aren't on my Christmas card list so what they think is irrelevant to me.

When I lived in Brighton I spent many Saturdays or Sundays sat on the beach on my own.

If you like your own company then what does it matter?

I do it all the time. I even sit on the beach in the winter! I often take all my study books with me as its better than just studying constantly at home.

Mind you, sand in the calculator is a real bugger!!

Enjoy because when it's back to raining next week you will kick yourself!

You see it all the time. Not everyone is joined at the hip. It is perfectly normal.

What a strange question, do we need to be joined at the hip with someone to appear normal?

I envy you. I'm off because a sink hole appeared at one of my local stations and after the commute home last night by bus a two hour bus journey didn't appeal today. If there were a beach nearby that's where I'd be!

Go for it OP! Chillax and immerse yourself in the surroundings and lose yourself in the book

I frequently take myself off to the beach and enjoy the solitude even though others are around (if that makes sense)

Nobody but nobody will think badly of you for sitting by yourself. And I bet lots of people who *are* there with friends or family will envy you your solitude ... you won't be responsible for rubbing sun cream on others, or for their safety, nor will you be under any obligation to converse or fit in with other people's schedules. You can listen to whatever music you like without constantly taking your headphones in and out to respond to the people you're with. And if you take food and drink you won't have to share it !

What real reason is there NOT to go ?

Oh come on now... I think the comment about people thinking you have no mates was supposed to be funny.

If you don't state in the OP the full story you can't expect people to be mind readers. How would anyone know you have issues with anxiety?

My _iew is that you shouldn't feel anxious or worried about what other people think of you going to the beach alone but if you do then go somewhere you won't feel so anxious... it's supposed to be enjoyable for you. What about a local park with quiet spots or similar. I'd guess that no-one will pay any attention or even notice that you're by yourself, going to the beach on a sunny day is not out of the ordinary whether you're on your own or in a crowd.

Have fun whatever you do.

I love sitting on a beach on my own. People will often come and chat to you - I've found.

Lots of people end up sat on their own even if they go with others, as everyone else goes off swimming in the sea. I have more fun doing life guard observing for scientific purposes.
