School holidays

Two weeks to long..always thought this to be the case..add another week on at Xmas and Easter..I know teachers work hard etc, but surely the break doesnt have to be this long?

It's a left over from when we were an agrarian economy. There are convincing arguments to keep it as it is or change it.

I'd prefer to see four 10 week terms

I first experienced this at Uni in North America, and it's a much more sensible system

It is far to long! Mums and dads are pulling their hair out and kids are usually bored after a couple of weeks

Not meeting

Ours finish this Friday but we go away on Thursday. I have a childminder who is worth every penny - I couldn't function without her!!

My kids struggle with a 7week term so any more than that would be awful. Unless there would be a half term break?

I do find this strange also, I would home school

Mine if I had the chance, they grow up way to fast!!

I adore the holidays. We count down to them and fill our days with lots of fun stuff I hate to see people moaning about their kids being off school. They aren't little forever!

It's not a case of not liking them is it. My kids get bored after a couple of weeks and it's only so much I can do to occupy them. My oldest loves school and hates the holidays. Then it's paying for extra child care

Exactly! I love doing things with mine and just hanging out .. in the next few years he probably won't want to do I'm making the most of it

I have always found it strange that some of my friends dread the summer holidays as they have their kids at home.

I actually like my children (most of the time) they are nice people. Some parents actually argue about which of them should have to put up with their kids more, they are a married couple not single parents. But to be fair if I had their kids I would want my other half to be lumped with them rather than me, but it is their own fault, they are the ones who brought them up after all.

It would be good as I find the kids get bored over the summer break as its such a long holiday.

I'm lucky I stay at home with them and love having them around but I do know many of my friends struggle with childcare over the summer so my house is often full with bouncing minions lol.

I think an extra week at Christmas and Easter would be ideal for me

I love the Holliday's, but then I'm Lucky enough to have a job that doesn't require me to be in a workplace for a set amount of hours or at a certain time each day, if I did I'd be pulling my hair out, child care costs are a living joke

I don't understand how kids get bored? Mine are 9 & 5 and we try and alternate a day in, a day out. We are zoo and national trust members so can do that for 'free' but we spent most of the rest of the time in the woods, picnics, den building, even in the rain. Lots of free fun. Plus the odd paid for day out as well.
