I'm going on holiday soon and want to take some books to read. I like crime, mystery and thrillers from authors like John Case, Dan Brown and James Patterson.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Frank Gardner has written a book that I'm looking forward to reading. Can't remember what it's called but it's a spy/MI5 kinda thing.

Karin Slaughter. She's good.

Have you tried the Roy Grace crime series by Peter James? Best read from the first one on, but very good. Ditto Mark Billingham's series featuring Tom Thorne.

Used to read a lot of James Patterson, but got a bit fed up of the co-authored ones that used to be churned out at a rate of knots.

My first recommendation is to stop reading Dan Brown novels.

The Shadow of the Wind By Carlos Ruiz Zafon is an excellent mystery novel. As is the prequel The Angels Game.

Oh goodness, no!

Highly irritating. I managed to finish the first one but couldn't bring myself to even start the second!

not really.. unless you like non fiction anthropology text books ..my summer reading material..the length of my reading lists are huge

my summer spending will be on an index box and cards to get myself a large glossary before the autm..i love stationary..its actually something i cant wait to buy..sad i know to be excited over a plastic box and some cards...question is im going to splash out on a fountain pen to write with..geez the stuff turns me on

...hope it made you smile..have a wonderful time on your holiday x

Keeping with the Scottish theme, get any of the Iain Banks novels

Espedair Street or Dead Air are great.

And if it's your thing, try his Sci fi as Iain M Banks

"Mark Billingham

Simon Kernick"

Simon Kernick was in the year above me at school. His brother was in the same year as me. It's always weird seeing his name on books

Not really my genre, but Mark Billingham was alright. Also, Jo Nesbo and Peter May (not read)

Try Oliver Tidy if you have a Kindle. I think his stuff is only available in electronic format.

I quite like Chris Kuzneski, just getting into Peter James and love the Jo Nesbo books.

I quite like Crime and Archelogical thriller types but can't get excited about Dan Brown

I agree with many of the above

Mo Hayder, Birdman and The Treatment are excellent, though I've read all of them and patiently waiting for her to write more

Simon Kernik also a great read. Ive read a lot of Harlan Coben too, prefer the stand alone novels to the Myron Bolitar series, these can be too American cheesy for me.

I shall look into the other names mentioned. When I'm on holiday I have to read click lit, books full of fashion, romance, exotic locations, riches, etc etc. All follow a similar plot but on holiday and in the summer months I like an easy, brain resting novel, autumn and winter time is for gritty and scary crime thrillers
