Hairdresser's car??

Some years ago a friend of mine was accused of driving one. It was a Ford Streetka, and seemed very fast and fun. What cars do they drive nowadays? What are the connotations of this automotive jibe?

Ha! Love it! So, an MR2 is ok? I like Mini Coopers...or are they the Mini on steroids nowadays? So, are we talking style over substance here?

I had a Mk3 MR2 for a few years. According to my brother yes, it is indeed a hairdressers car.

But then after years of mockery he had to drive it in an emergency. He didn't take the piss any more after that :D

Back when I was with my ex there were a couple of years where he had a baby blue colour mg convertible and I had a Nissan 350Z! He used to say his penis was so big it didn't matter that he had a girls car!

I wouldn't have been with him almost 10 years if it wasn't! Was just shy of 9inches in length with decent girth!

What about a Peugeot ZCR GT cheaper version of a TT but looks quite smart, hairdressers car? Anybody had one, have no experience of Peugeot's and heard this car has a few common problems.

I test drove a petrol one just before I got my TT to be honest I loved the styling but was sooooo disappointed. I really wanted one and it was a toss between Nissan 350 this and a TT.

It was my 3rd place on all 3 test drives. I found it dead noisey when driving (engine) and also I thought it would be a fun ride but it felt so heavy and bulky to drive. It was also crap on corners.

To be honest my old Lexus rs was lighter to drive and that was 4x4.

The Nissan was fun but that just felt too tinny like I was driving mums micra just with a bigger engine and when I put my foot down it kinda span or maybe that's my driving lol.

The TT is a whole new ball game I love it

The MX5 I'd agree with you, which is why I consider it's hairdresser reputation undeserved.

The TT however, I couldn't disagree more. Wouldn't have one given, I'd sell it and buy something better for half the price. I wouldn't trade L's GT86 for one and it's about 10k cheaper.

As for the RCZ, disappointing drive and actually pretty poor value next to the TT. Slightly cheaper but not much to say it's got a fair bit less power and it's residuals will be significantly reduced. Plus the styling doesn't really work for me.

I had a 350Z for 2 years I loved it, it's got a switch underneath to turn traction control off maybe you drove it with that off cos it's rear wheel drive. I crashed mine in -9 on black ice, back end hit the ice after taking a roundabout then I couldn't control it, just turned my music up, I was fine though, couldn't believe I undid my seatbelt and crawled out, not even any glass smashed but it was on it's roof and the front end was on the central reservation barrier! Some woman came over and a few cars stopped and all I could say was well this is embarrassing cos seconds before I'd overtook most of them like a dick head!

Right so say you had 8 and a half grand for a car would you get

The Peugeot rcz gt 2011 plate

Alfa Romeo giulietta 2013 plate

Audi A1 s line 61 plate

All under 60k miles and the Audi and Alfa are both diesel options so low tax

Tough call.

The A1 is out because its just unusably small, we test drove the S1 when we were trying to find L a car and we loved the drive but it was just completely impractical.

The Giulietta is a more handsome car than the RCZ in my opinion, just cant get my head around its styling, but the Alfa is, contrary to reputation rather dull and uninspiring to drive. Dangerously close to my current "family dustbin" Fiat Bravo diesel in fact.

I guess it would be the RCZ, because if i went in to test drive the Alfa i'd just come out thinking "Why would i spend the money on something that drives almost exactly the same as my £1700 junker"

It's only for me and my child and I'm only 5'3 was thinking of the sport back if it was the Audi cos it's a little bit more headroom in the back and back doors so would be handier.

The rcz does look nicer but I've been reading so many reviews about common things that go wrong with it, don't want to be getting it fixed all the time. Want something that will survive on a service and a mot every year.

If i were buying in your position then id go with the A1.

The Alfa is overkill for what you need in terms of size, the RCZ as you say has common faults and will potentially give you more issues with child seats etc depending on how old the child is.

The S1 wasnt any good for us, but L carries a lot of stuff in her boot, has 2 kids and often 2 adults in the car as well. And also the boot is bigger in the A1 than the S1 due to the lack of a 4 wheel drive system encroaching from below.

You will almost certainly be fine with it, and they do drive very well. But i'd agree, go for the Sportback

I love my tigra for the roof downness. Never in town though, usually just out on my country road drives. The handling isn't bad, but it's got no power. But that suits me fine, I like to pootle.

A friend loves his new TT but then he is bisexual, another friend loves their Evoque but i dont care for the looks much and I tried a GLA and was vry dissapointed at how it drove and the poor spec for the money. £30K and sat nav and dab radio both extra and plastic leather look seatsas standard. Bought a new BMW which drives fantastically when compared especially to the Merc
