Emojis...do we need them?

Its seems we all use them at the ending of a sentence or phrase,is the response defferent if we dont put a smiley face at the end? Would the conversation on a thread be totally different in a thread if no one used them at all?

Sorry if this has been done before, this is an emoji free thread by the way

I think emojis help text conversations. If you think people misunderstand eachother now, then I'd be afraid of what it would be like without emojis.

It's not about being "adult enough." Humans are hardwired to read emotion through facial expression. Text removes that dimension of communication. Emojis help in equalizing the missing element.

I'm not on Facebook so I'll not speak to that. As for phones, usually you are speaking to people who know you so there is already an understanding and voice inflection can also tip someone off to the mood of a statement. We lack that in text, too.

It's not about being an adult though is it? It's about the text being devoid of expression or tone.

If I put a at the end of that little paragraph would not think I was talking to you like you're stupid?

If I put a at the end of it, would my intended tone mean something different?

Nothing to do with being adult op! It's much easier to show expression in your voice/face than it is with the written word!

After a short time on the forums anyone knows how often/easily comments are misinterpreted!

Emojis help to avoid that happening - simples!!

"I think emojis help text conversations. If you think people misunderstand eachother now, then I'd be afraid of what it would be like without emojis. "

Exactly this

I used to work in a factory with a early and late shift but no night shift, the late shift always had to leave the early shift a note as a hand over. Sometimes the notes were written in a tongue-in-cheek way or simply just giving them a heads up on the problems they may face on a particular job. I lost count the amount of times someone completely mis-read a note and took it as someone having a dig at them or telling them how to do there job. When it wasn't supposed to be written in that fashion at all!

It was also very noisy , so you had to shout to speak to each other . Again this caused problems sometimes too because how you look and how you sound when shouting can be taken differently.

So any form of getting things across more accurately has got to be a good thing

I use them because most people really don't get my humour when it's written down. Meaning is so hard to convey in text...unless you want to ramble on forever, to explain your meaning. Why do that when an emoji says it all?

I like using them as they can help get the tone across, especially on here where your posting to strangers.

With friends and family, it's different as they often know how to take you.

It's not about being "adult enough." Humans are hardwired to read emotion through facial expression. Text removes that dimension of communication. Emojis help in equalizing the missing element.

People have conversations on facebook without emojis, and what about txt conversations on phones

If people won't use my beloved whatsapp I have to download extra apps to get all the emoji, they are essential to me now!

Its emoje free friday tomorrow are you taking the challenge frisky"

Nope, never!!!

"I should have know this would happen

(On a serious note, sometimes it helps differentiate a serious comment, from a sarcastic or joking one)

Thats my point are we not adult enough to know the difference
