Nostalgia Hell

Normally when we look back in time nostalgically it's through a dewy-eyed, rose tinted view of the 'good old days' - Spangles, Grifters, jumpers for goalposts that sort of thing.

But actually, most of the 70's and 80's were crap really when you think about it.

What sort of rubbish can you recall from your childhood?

We had a black and white tv and when you turned it on you had to wait a good few minutes before the picture came on. And every now and then the picture used to disappear unless you gave it a good old whack on top. And it only had 3 channels, BBC1, BBC2 and ITV. Rubbish!

Deely boppers. WTF?

Milk bottles left in the doorstep that would go off before you even brought them in on hot Summers days - and that's after the birds has pecked away at the top and drank half of it already ..

Nowhere open at all on a Sunday .. The most dull day of the week with NOTHING to do.

What else was crap as far as you can remember?

I used to crack out the old PS1 and N64 to play games on them but some just aren't as good as I remember

70's fashion-All of it! If you wanted jeans? Flares! If you wanted shoes? Jeez! Don't even go there! Pubs closed 10.30 just as well Punk happened to kick the 70's in the balls. And spangles were overrated!

When very young ,i remember the tin bath in front of the open fire and we didnt have television so spent a lot of time reading and singing to us,happy memories.

I think the lack of TV and Sunday shopping is not really the basis to dismiss 2 decades as 'crap'

Ah it's just meant to be a bit of fun fella

Cross country runs at school in weather so cold and wet your nipples used to rub

Pull rings on soft drinks cans that used to snap off so you were totally buggered unless you punctured the can and then the drink spurted everywhere ..

I was living abroad in the 70's.

Had a choice of chocolate, strawberry or banana flavour milk at break at school.

Afternoons spent at a club swimming.

Hot weather all the time

Back in my day, you had to wind them up, you know.

Ping pong tennis had just come in. It is still the only bloody game I am any good at.

I loved cross country and used to ask to do it instead of anything else.

PE was always the first lesson after lunch and i used to live just round the corner from school. Me and my mates used to run out the school gates, go to my house and watch neighbours on TV and then run back. We did this for the last 3 years of school and the teachers never caught on

From a sports side of things.

The West Indies fast bowlers. Lille and Thomson. Watching Bob Willis running in and Gower batting like a dream.

Gareth Edwards. International Rugby pitches that turned to mud. Erica Rowe.

Cricket on BBC tv.....although the pictures were so bad you could never actually see the ball!

We had to run over the town moor in snow and rain.

They never caught on to the fact that there was a very good bus service.

I remember crusty white dog poo! Just don't see it anymore!

And tarmac bubbles on the road. Used to love pushing them till they popped!

Being out playing all day in the summer holidays, climbing trees, jumping into rivers, and the things you could collect from kellogs (other cereals are available) cereal boxes to put on your bike spoaks.

It was fucking freezing in winter. No central heating and only an expensive immersion heater for water so we only ever got two inches of lukewarm water to bathe in once a week.

Being the worst kind of bored on a Sunday. My dads answer was always to go and read a book.

We had to visit crusty relatives on Sunday's too. Bored.

Nylon clothing and bedding. Nuff said.

Broken wrists with clackers and broken ankles with platforms.
