"Normally when we look back in time nostalgically it's through a dewy-eyed, rose tinted view of the 'good old days' - Spangles, Grifters, jumpers for goalposts that sort of thing. But actually, most of the 70's and 80's were crap really when you think about it. What sort of rubbish can you recall from your childhood? We had a black and white tv and when you turned it on you had to wait a good few minutes before the picture came on. And every now and then the picture used to disappear unless you gave it a good old whack on top. And it only had 3 channels, BBC1, BBC2 and ITV. Rubbish! Deely boppers. WTF? Milk bottles left in the doorstep that would go off before you even brought them in on hot Summers days - and that's after the birds has pecked away at the top and drank half of it already .. Nowhere open at all on a Sunday .. The most dull day of the week with NOTHING to do. What else was crap as far as you can remember? " I think the lack of TV and Sunday shopping is not really the basis to dismiss 2 decades as 'crap'

"Oh God - cross country. Grew up in Derbyshire and we had to run up a fucking mountain in the snow - in shorts and t-shirts. PE teachers could be right sadistic bastards!" I loved cross country and used to ask to do it instead of anything else. PE was always the first lesson after lunch and i used to live just round the corner from school. Me and my mates used to run out the school gates, go to my house and watch neighbours on TV and then run back. We did this for the last 3 years of school and the teachers never caught on

They never caught on to the fact that there was a very good bus service.
