London

OP when I first went to Turkey in 2008 the Lira: Euro was 2:1 but Lira has dropped against the Euro now.

Latest I know is 3:1 approximately.

We're not out of the EU

There's several exchange rate resources at your fingertips via Google that'll give you more accurate information than Fab

Hope this helps

They don't use the euro in Turkey, they have their own currency, the lira. If any of us has been we would change our British pounds for Turkish lira, no Euros involved

Their currency is Turkish Lira but they do accept Euro (or did)

I used Euro twice in 2008 and 2012.

The travel agencies/restaurants/ hotels (pension) have no problem accepting Euro.

The local sundry shops in Istanbul accepted Euro as well.

Not sure about the smaller local shops outside Istanbul though (or post 2012).

When we went a couple of years back they preferred the sterling and gave you a better exchange rate...we always changed for euros which everyone accepted....no one seemed to prefer lira for some reason

Scorpio have you been to Turkey.??? If not don't knock it till you try it.Ive been 4 times I love it to death. The people are so generous in the giving of hospitality to you.As has been already said on here its best to take sterling as you WILL get a better exchange rate for your pound.

Cheltenham

Current exchange rate is:

1 EUR: 3.20 TL

1 GBP: 3.83 TL

Do not change your money in airport and in touristic destinations, as rates are very bad.

"Why would anyone want to go to Turkey?"
why don't you ask the Barcelona or bayern Munich football players why they go to turkey? They use the same hotel for warm weather training so it can't be that bad!
