...you were driving down a quiet road and you saw me on the side trying to flag you down. You eventually slow down and I ask you very kindly for a lift as my wallet had been stolen and cannot afford a bus/train ride.

I'd carry on as there are too many scams around. You would have to just use shanksey's pony and walk to civilisation. You could pretend you're Forrest.
