Have you got too much stuff?

Exeter

My partner is hoping to move soon and we're slowly packing up her stuff.I am truly astonished at how much she has in the way of ornaments, books and crockery. Most of this stuff hasn't been used in years and won't be going with her!

I read an article recently which claimed that the average person owns 1000 items. My partner has several times this amount!

What about you? Do you have far too much stuff?!

I moved last year and all of the stuff I own fit nicely into one suitcase and one bag.

I have since also acquired a bed though which is a little bulky.

Yes! I have a tendency to hoard, which doesn't bode well for my old age , I recently moved from a three bed semi and it was HELL packing. I'm never ever ever ever never moving again!!!!

Had to get in clearance people to take everything else I couldn't take with me as it was just too overwhelming

Definitely, up until 14 years ago I moved house every few years and was very unsentimental about ditching stuff, now I have a big house and two large sheds, all chocka with the accumulated dross of modern life, including two ride-on lawnmowers that don't even work anymore. I'm going to need a couple of skips when I downsize in a few years.

"They say if you have things you havent used for two years ,then you dont need it ,throw it away."

I often find bank statements from accounts long closed, things I think "oh that'll come in handy" that are covered in dust. My house is bulging. Time for a clear out I think

It took 11 fucking days to move Wolf from one flat to another!!!!!

We move again in a year. I'm employing someone to come and do it for us.

I'm currently packing and sorting as I'm being evicted from my current house since my landlord wants to sell. I don't know where I'm moving to so I'm being harsh with stuff and getting rid of lots of crap I don't need... Theres loads!!

"Yes. I am a wanna be minimalist x"

Read a book called 'Stuffication' on this. Pretty interesting , and I was already de-cluttering after my divorce anyhow. Not a minimalist, however I've cut back 'stuff' and 'crap' significantly!

We moved 3 years ago and I did really well in sorting out my clothes and shoes. I was ruthless and I gave loads to a charity shop. My aim was only to keep the items I wore and loved.

I was a little ashamed to find I filled 8 large packing crates with my clothes and shoes alone.

Yes. I have far too much stuff. I'm in the process of getting rid of lots of it. It feels great with every visit to the charity shop.

Just around the corner

I have lots of 'stuff' that I've accumulated throughout my life. However, I have always subscribed to William Morris' advice that you should "have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful".

I could survive without all of it tomorrow; but why would I want to?

Yes. We moved seven months ago and got rid of huge amounts of stuff, we still have more than we need. The worst offender is me with clothes, I have more than anybody can believe

I've got too many empty coffee jars but they'll come in handy if I ever start making jam

Yep, I hoard stuff like crazy and I'm trying to cut back, chuck things I know I don't need to hold on to

It's a matter of having to, I live in a one bedroom flat it's quite small, and I'm crowding myself out

I have pruned my 'stuff' over the years even being brutal With memories. I plan on moving in 18 months to hopefully a forever home which will mean a final massive full of all things unneccesary.

Big lesson learnt when my mother passed away and my sister and I had to clear her 'stuff' she was a learner boarder. I won't do that to my son

Emms is moving up to Scotland next year to be with me and she has exactly the same. Ornaments books dvds momentos and drawers and shelves piles full of stuff that will never ever get used. I've tried to ask her to get rid of some of her crap but all I get is no they're memories etc.

No I don't have too much stuff. If it hasn't been used in over a year then bin, 'cause I clearly don't need it.

But then I live on a narrowboat and storage space is at a premium!
