For those of you with irregular cycles or who have had irregular periods following illness or medication or something, how long is the longest you've gone between periods (without being pregnant or menopausal or similar)?

I had to come off the pill a few months ago. My cycle was always irregular before I started taking it but it's downright bizarre now.

(No, I'm not pregnant. I checked!)

Essex.

Frisky went a few months whilst undergoing chemo...

Now it can be 2 to 6 weeks between periods and bleeding can be anywhere from 2 days to 3 weeks...

I had my period for a solid 3 months when I was younger but birth control sorted it out and I don't have any problems anymore.

Maybe it's your diet? What you eat massively affects your cycle and I know you've been losing weight.

recently i had no period for 3 months.. got worried but was due for a smear which brought it on..

i'm thinking its age at this stage thats messing with my cycle..

Irregular was the norm before the pill but I'd been on it for years, so I don't know what would be usual now.

I've only been off it for a couple of months so things may have not settled down yet.

It could also be related to my diet, at least partly, I guess.

I'm not worried but not knowing what to expect isn't half putting a cramp on being able to arrange meets.

I suppose... I'm more of an external stimulus gal when I'm playing alone. I don't get much enjoyment from insertables. I don't feel particularly enthusiastic about it but it might make me feel more confident a meet won't turn into something resembling a murder scene part way through.

It can start at any time really,when your periods start getting erratic,then you know ,some women can start in their thirties.

My periods were erratic from the start, in my teens!

Dryness,go off sex ,all part of it,you can come out of it two ways,Not wanting sex or a raving nymphomaniac

If you go to your gp a simple blood test will show if youre menopausal.

However during that time I once started a new job overseas and my periods stopped altogether for the whole time I was abroad and only restarted when I returned home 8 months later, which was a bit bizarre...

I only came off the pill in order to try for a baby, and I fell pregnant 6 weeks after! Unfortunately I lost that baby, but my next pregnancy was successful, which was a good job as the menopause kicked in about 3 months after!

I no longer have periods and haven't for almost 5 years and nor do I miss them

She tried the injection in her behind, and the pill, one made her lose her sex drive and the other made her gain wait but the implant thing (for her) she not had a single side affect it's great!

That's another reason I'm nervous of sorting out an alternative.

Then all of a sudden changed to bleeding all the time and I would bleed for like three months straight with a week or two break and then bleed for months again. So I went on the coil and haven't had a period in two years and I'm not complaining. Over the last five years I have had a total of about 6 periods.

Well I would suggest having a word with your DR about the implant as it is a good idea, its just a little nick in your skin the implnet pushed in then a plaster and lasts for 3 years. If there is any problems, it's just as quick to get it removed

Not meeting

Mine were always regular - every 28 days almost to the minute on Cileste pill. I have endometriosis which feeds off oestrogen so can't use some types of pill.

Last October they went haywire so I got a phone app to keep track. I was having them after a break of 8-12 days & couldn't take anymore.

My GP stopped my pill as I was turning 40 & I should have had the Mirena fitted in 2008 but kept refusing. It's still the preferred method for me.

I'm currently taking Norethisterone so not having any bleeding at all. I'm seeing my consultant in September to demand (gone past asking nicely) a hysterectomy.

I was very nervous of the menopause,i refused any help as i thought let nature take its course,yes funny things do happen,and it can be very difficult,I'm lucky i never suffered with hot flushes,just mood swings,one day up next day down,its really hard to explain how you feel and it seemed i blamed everything on the menopause,but i got through it,you have to just accept it as it wont go away.

I go 8-9 months with out one, I'm on the pill but stop taking it when I'm suppose to ready for a period but nothing it's the same all the time! Oh but when it does eventually arrive don't I know about it!!

I went on the minipill for the first time ever when I started losing weight. Apparently when you lose fat oestrogen is released and my cycle was getting shorter and shorter as a result. I couldn't be doing with it so I went on Cerelle, bled for weeks on it but it was worth it since it's all evened out and I don't have to worry about periods any more.

this month i went to speak to doc about delaying period for the summer..i had noticed last year when doing the same for a short period it made difference to my energy levels..so im sterilized its not for contraception purposes...i am going to be on it for a couple of months..see it there is a noted difference and then come off and after a month or so go get hormonal profiling

im not keen on changing my bodies patterns, however if i know its hormonal i can have a holistic approach to something definitive, in a relatively short space of time..which i thought was insightful and proactive for my mid to long term well being..she was very supportive x hope this approach inspires you in some way for you x

I have the inplant in my arm.... it took a year to settle down... it was a pain as I would just bleed out the blue... no control at all..... but finally did settle down..... don't get any now... but lost my sex drive... ggrrr

After having my daughter, mine returned when she was 10 months old and were regular for nearly a year. This last year they have been all over the place, driving me to distraction.

Anything malign has been ruled out and I have just hit rock bottom today, with it arriving 5 days early, again, scuppering long term plans I had with my partner. Been in tears of sheer frustration about it, and will see the doctor about going back on the pill tmrw although I don't hold out much hope x

Persuading them to prescribe the combined Pill over 40 is a real battle and may prove impossible. I won until this year but my doctor finally put his foot down.

The mini pill is still a possibility but obviously I don't know if it would be suitable for you.

I can't take any oral contraceptives, they're not strong enough due to my epilepsy meds so had injection but had irregular bleeding for 6 months on and off. Waiting to be referred to be sterilised X

I have had 3 mirena coils over the years - not for everyone I know but they work for me.

I have the odd 'pink' day but nothing serious for years.

As for the menopause - I've decided I'm not doing it. Nope. Haven't got the time or inclination to put up with that! Lol

My sisters been going through it for about 10 years now!

I know that feeling well, I have just had a 2 week period and its still ongoing which scuppered my weekend plans with my other half. So frustrating as won't see him now for a few weeks arghhhh

I have been irregular since the beginning. I went months without one then every 28 days from when I finished.

I then hit my 20's and bled constantly. It was light but I had no fun all of my 20's. As soon as I would get amorous it was like a blood bath.

It was my 30s before they decided to give me the pill.(male doctor he Just used to tell me to loose weight)

The pill made me bleed really heavily. Accidents daily. It was a nightmare.

It was a nurse who recommended the marina coil to me. She saw from my records I had been struggling for years.

I haven't looked back. Period free for 4/5 years. Loving fab.

Due to have it replaced next month.

It will be replaced!

Making up for lost time x

Just don't go on the injection depoprevera or whatever it's called. Will seriously make you pile on, I put on almost 2 stone after just 6 months of being on it and the knock on effects, messed my periods up and everything.

While on the depo for 4 yrs and the following 18 months after coming of it I had 6 periods, now on the implant and although My periods are irregular and can last up to 11 days sometimes I feel a lot more human and have lost 3 stone in weight xx

After coming off the patch this time last year I was going 6weekly for my period then since September it's been awol,(3months) concieved in January and due in september, hoping to have regular ones once this one's out. Not likely though! Gotta love mother nature - the bitch!

I have the mirena coil and I haven't had any issues with it at all ... Except that this time round my threads have disappeared so it may be that it needs to come out ... I have a scan soon to get it checked.. Either way it's the best thing they could have given me as I tried the pill and everything else
