....by a speed camera on May 31st. Notice came through of 'intention to prosecute' and, because the car is registered in Mrs Cable's name, we sent the form back to declare that it was me.

Not heard anything since.... what should I do?

I don't want to try to wriggle out of it on a technicality (it was my own fault for allowing myself to get distracted after all!) but I am concerned that maybe a letter has gone missing. How would I go about finding out?

58mph in a 50 limit on a duel carriageway, shortly after a Nation Speed Limit stretch- I wasn't on the brake hard enough or quick enough!

You have done what is required by you by returning the NIP with the driver details, leave it at that. If they hadn't received it back you would have had a reminder by now. Each police force has one office that deals with all traffic tickets including speed cameras and tickets issued by police officers so they are slow, as long as they have sent the NIP within 14 days they have complied with the law, they have 6 months in total to deal with it after that.

Six months, that's useful to know. In that case I don't need to chase them yet but I shall keep £100 'ring fenced'

I'll opt for the Speed Awareness course- Mrs Cable said it was quite interesting!

be patient. they may not get back to you. I had this when I bought and sold a bike in less than a week, NIP went to the guy I bought from, offence was committed by the guy I sold it to, so he named me... took 5 months to turn up at my address, I named the buyer, he never heard anything from them. Sometimes it's just too much work for £100

.

Never contact them. Walt for them to contact you.

Always ask for photographic evidence. Then do the usual speed=distance/time equation. You'll be surprised how many people just assume the camera never lies.... It can be wrong and sometimes, depending on a few factors.

I was once flashed @ 48 in a 40 zone. After applying for the pics ad doing the equation, it turned out I was actually travelling at 34mph and not 48.... I opted to fight my case in court but, never got that far..... Case dropped.

Good luck OP

NW London

A NIP has to be issued within 14 days of the alleged contravention in order to be valid. Any later than that (without valid reason) and you can legally tell them to do one.

Beyond the shadows.

If any ladies would like to flash me rest assured I'll issue a NIPround in less that 14 days
