A product like Simple Solution, which is an enzymatic cleaner designed for removing urine stains.

As above, you can buy UV torches for finding it.

We had a poorly cat so had a spell of this. You need to find the source really as cats tend to keep going back to the same place. I had to just keep going until it was so strong I found where she was peeing.

I'm guessing it's a male cat, if so get it neutered as soon as possible because if it's started marking you house things will only get worse, once they start they mark everything and you'll end up replacing furniture, mine got to the point he would even mark people in the house

Pee all over the house your self, see how that cat feels when the shoes on the other foot and now you got a different smell.

Thank you. All cats castrated. They all have free access to outside and have for years so don't understand why now!

Uv torch?? Now that is interesting I didn't know that. I'll certainly try that.

Got laminate everywhere except the stairs..... so that's where it chooses! Don't know how to avoid a stair carpet though that would be my preference.... but it would be so noisy and slippy

Once you've found the spot, a bowl with lemon juice and vinegar will deter any further use of that spot.

Doesn't have to be a big bowl, I used a dipping bowl, you know the type for soy sauce, etc

Have you taken the cat to the vet? Inappropriate toileting is often due to a medical problem such as cystitis or crystals.

That's the first thing to do.

Do you have enough litter trays and are they kept clean? Lots of cats don't like to share trays and many won't use a dirty tray.

Otherwise, stress is a very common cause. Did anything change around the time it began? New cat? New baby? New or different anything? Has the relationship between the cats changed?

Toileting around the house, except for scent marking (usually but not always Tom cats or male cats who were neutered late), is usually an attempt to tell you something is wrong.

Is it definitely one of your cats? Might need to do some detective work as we went through a stage of a rogue cat coming in our house. Scared the life out of me when it jumped off the top of the kitchen cupboards.

I don't know which cat it is, I have five None are ill. No litter trays as all have free access outside.

It's because the lodger has two cats. They're all finding their places but it's been six months I thought it would be sorted by now.

Anyway I've decided to get rid of stairs carpet and have stairs sanded and varnished

Thanks for your help.

Get a feliway diffuser if there are cats trying to sort out their rank, this emits happy cat hormones lol. They don't have a smell to them but I think they work. The other thing is if you know the spot the cat is peeing on clean it with biological clothes washing powder.

The more you wash it the more the smell will keep rising!

Get some barcarbonate of soda and sprinkle that on it and try and leave it for a couple of hours then give it a good hoover

If that fails sling the carpet

I've had this problem and am a pro at finding it & treating it. Best way to find it is to watch your cat as they go smell area. If not then get on all fours and sniff around, you'll soon find it.

Best thing for the smell is biological washing powder/liquid as it has enzymes. So dilute some in water and give it a good wash. X

I found that the utility room was smelling of cat pee, then discovered that one of the neighbours cats had been coming in, terrorising my cat, and then peeing to mark its' territory. The bicarb did the trick for me (& ensuring rogue cat couldn't get in)

Rent a rug doctor carpet cleaner from tesco, they do a specific pet shampoo and it works a treat, it'll bring your carpets up like new

"Bleach bleach and more bleach "

Bleach encourages them to do it more, so don't use bleach based products. Pets At Home have some good stuff in a turquoise spray bottle, Simple Solution. Spray, leave for 10 minutes for the pro-bacteria enzymes to work and blot the excess off.

If you want to stop other cats from coming in, there's an electronic cat flap which reads the microchip and only opens for those you have programmed in. i.e. Your cats and any allowed neighbour's, as in my case. The ones with the magnet on the collar are fine, until your cat allows the stranger in by sitting by the cat flap, keeping it unlocked. Then the stranger can't get out again! Had that happen a lot of years back too!

Could one of your cats have a urinary infection or if it's a male it could have crystals in its urinary tract, one of my males gets that from time to time. They then pee in odd places. XXX

"Ffs this is a swinging site "

So what! There is no rule that all chat has to be sex related. How boring would that be. Swinging is also a social hobby, people talk to each other in an attempt to get to know each other and through this they find someone they find compatible to eventually meet.

And you knew the subject matter in the title - so step away from this thread, and not forgetting the obligatory ffs at the end or start of each statement!

I like cats but I would never have one and certainly never more than one because of this happening, cat pee is very difficult to get rid of and the smell is disgusting in the house.

This happened to my friend. She eventually found out where the cat was going by getting down on her hands and knees and sniffing. Try the corners first. She washed it with a household cleaner, when dry this made it a lot worse. She washed it a few times more and she still couldn't get rid of the smell. the pee had soaked through to the underlay too. She did try a product called Urine Off and that did make it so much better, then she put bicarbonate of soda on the area, when dry, to neutralise the smell. It had ruined the carpet though with colour bleaching and slight shrinkage from constantly cleaning so she had to replace it.

Couldn't give a fuck about them .

Much prefer dogs myself as you know where you stand with them.

Those feline fuckers are strange beasts and I've just got no time for them.

One comes and pisses in my fruit orchard which is really getting to me.

I'll get the fucker soon though.

Yeah you can. I'd try this on my garden to discourage my neighbours little bastard cats from shitting everywhere and scaring my critters but apparently my critters wouldn't like it either. Figures!
