Bolton

Check the memory, it could be lagging because the hard drive is near to full.

Sounds like it's picked up a virus, probably been downloaded unknowingly through the interweb browser.

wherever i need to be

If you know when it started to play up you can do a system restore to a date prior to it. However would recommend that you do a through virus and spyware scan as this is probably a cause. Also delete all temporary internet files as they can just take up space.

has she installed any big programs on it recently?

if the laptop isnt up to spec some system intensive programs can slow it to a crawl and cause freezes

its usually because of a shitty cpu or lack of RAM

I believe that you may have to be just a teensy weensy more specific to get any reasonable answers.

it could be overheating, that's the usual cause. getting a fan for underneath helps a lot.

but having not enough memory or a virus using up more memory is usually the cause for it overheating as well.

i thought system config showed how much usage each thing is using but i just looked at mine and it doesn't, idk where it is now but find the pop-up box what shows that because it will show you how much memory you have left, how much you're using at the time and what is using it. might be different for different versions of windows.
