Acrylic nails

For the first time ever, I have fake acrylic nails. I've never been interested in nails before, I don't paint my fingernails and I keep them fairly short.

But my friend asked me to go with her and I've had a square shape french manicure with cute daisy nail art on the thumbs and ring fingers.

I do like them, I'm pleased Ive tried them out but they do feel strange. I can't open cans of pop though.

How do other ladies manage with really long nails?

You will get used to them...so much so that it's hard to go back to natural nails

Years ago when I used to bite mine I wore fake ones to a Halloween party and kept them on for a week. They felt so weird and unnatural and I couldn't do loads of stuff with them on. Since I stopped biting mine they veer from long to short depending on whether or not I need to play piano (if I'm recording they make a clacking noise on the keys if they're too long). Other than that they don't get in the way of me doing anything because they are now real and I can feel them - although when they get superlong it's tricky to get my contact lenses out. That's normally when I bite the bullet and trim them short again.

I've always had short nails because my job meant they just didn't grow. I've now changed jobs and since then my nails have grown.....the trouble i have is that they aren't that strong so i often have one or 2 that have broken. I tend to patch those up with acrylics and occasionally have to cut my longer natural nails. I can't have them too long though as they do start to get in the way at work. Yet another reason why i should be a lady of leisure!

I've had sculpted acrylic nails for 4 years now, I love them, have to use my knuckle to flush the loo tho lol opening cans I use a coin or knife. Only time I find them a pain is when typing if they're growing out. My own nails are awful

I love false eyelashes, the longer the better. I have fake lashes, tan and nails now.

There was so many different types of nails, polishes, nail art, designs etc, I found it hard to choose.

I used to bite my nails years ago and worse fake ones that when they got ripped of they would hurt like hell, but now I've got my own natural long nails and if I brake one I could cry

I'd like to try acrylic nails, but worried that they'd ruin my own nails.

I'm the same with eyelashes. Only worn them once..

Nails on the other hand I love them. I'm going this week for a new set. Had to take mine off before going in hospital but had them on for 18 months. Always get a new colour but don't go mad with the art.

You just kinda get used to them.

"I'd like to try acrylic nails, but worried that they'd ruin my own nails."

They will ruin your own nails! But they will recover after a short while.

I love having my acrylics done. They don't stop me from doing anything at all, they are part of me now. I'm due a removal and a new full set on.

I've had gel nails and acrylic for 10 years now and you get used to them.

I still can't open cans so ask someone else to and picking up coins can be a challenge xx

You learn to adapt to opening things, I either use someone else or an object to open cans. I loved my nails when I had them, I just couldn't afford the upkeep of them

I have always been able to grow my bails nice and long but have started having gel overlays on the to make them stronger plus I like the look of them being a bit thicker.

Might try to learn how to do them myself though as I have the lamp etc at home and would save me money in the long run

South East Midlands NOT

I took my acrylic nails off in march after having them done for half my life! Feel naked without them and struggle to do things. The only thing I couldn't do with acrylic nails was picking coins up off the floor!

Never, shouldn't be at all sharp if they're done properly.

I've been weaning myself off of acrylics but I always get gel polish.

I like the feel of the nails, they are like porcelain. They aren't sharp at all, but I had square ones so whether the pointed ones catch on things I don't know.

What are the gel nails, are they better than acrylics?
