Most people I know who drink protein shakes don't make them with milk, and as far as I'm aware whey protein contains very little lactose.

I know several that use milk.

Most protein shakes taste dire when made with water.

I don't necessarily eat junk food but have no self control for the 3 items listed above

Most are designed to be mixed with skimmed milk - without it they don't meet the protein amount stated.

Some of the very expensive ones state milk or water but yes are foul without milk.

Unflavoured is always the best way as you can then choose what to use.

Orange juice, peanut butter, bananas, etc.

Smoothies aren't all that good I do Slimmingworld and they are high in syns it's because the fruits basically become concentrated fructose that your body then doesn't have to work as hard to digest so it's essentially drinking a glass of sugar water not good, same applies to fruit juices too, your better just eating the fruit as is

"I'm not a junk food eater per se, and I like chewing too much "

Most don't realise that's one of the best ways.

Chewing sends signals to your stomach telling it quantities, etc and helps to let you know when you are actually full rather than when you "feel " full.

40 times per mouthful was found to be the ideal minimum.

People doing so eat over 60% less on their plate.

Based on a very quick browse the shake is made containing inulin which is a Polysaccharide which humans cant digest but our gut bacteria can. Commercially inulin is extract from chicory but a number of other vegetables are rich in it including jerusalem artichokes. They are used quiet a lot in diet food in the US as they can replace sugar, starch or fat in products.

Stealing from Wikipedia ' Conversely, it is also considered a FODMAP, a class of carbohydrates which are rapidly fermented in the colon producing gas and drawing water into the colon which is a problem for individuals with irritable bowel syndrome. The consumption of large quantities (in particular, by sensitive or unaccustomed individuals) can lead to gas and bloating, and products that contain inulin will sometimes include a warning to add it gradually to one's diet.'

In the case of these shake the claim seams to be that the bacteria in the gut feeding on the inulin produce a craving supressing substance which is then absorbed assisting you resist all those delicious foods.

Having eaten quiet a lot of jerusalem artichokes at times, thier easy to grow and make delicious soup, I can confirm that they can be abnormally filling.

I have a kombucha continous brew, a strange type of drink made from sweet black tea fermented with a mix of yeasts and bacteria, which should probably work for this as the final drink is rich in acetic acid but it doesnt seem to work for me.

Jerusalem artichokes are big plants and you have to respect their size when growing them in the garden

I used to occasionally put a little sprinkle of salt on them may have been this that created to much acid at times.

Yes they are very closely related to sunflowers. Last year mine reached 9 foot tall and shaded out anything to the north of them. You also need be prepared for an ongoing fight if you ever want to get rid of them after planting them.

The one I saw was just for ornamental use but it certainly was the plant that towered above the rest I can Imagine a plant like that being awkward to move with the root system they must have do they "originate" from jerusalem or far east ? any water about their roots should find it..

Mine dont have a terribly large or extensive root structure. In fact the rootball is similar to a potato plant.

The plants originate from the Americas and the name possibly comes from the Italian settlers calling them girasoles (?sp) along with sunflowers.

The issues with getting rid of them is that the mature roots are quiet brittle and leaving small amounts behind is enough for them to regrow next season.

Reminds me of next doors yucca they dug the original adult plant up much to my delight because the razor like leaves encroached over on to myside of the fence, only to find a year or so later A another small yucca appearing haha I hate the damn things.. should be a few good years before this one is a nuisance to..
