I bought one of these mattresses as everyone has been going on about how wonderful they are to sleep on. It arrived last Wednesday in a box and to be honest, I want to know when is it going to be as wonderful as people have been saying as I am still not sleeping that well at all. My back still hurts, the top of my spine still hurts and I couldn’t move my shoulder at all yesterday

Yes I know for the last 2 years I have been sleeping on a mattress that was a slab of granite in disguise

Yes I know I get easily disturbed though I suspect that has been more down to the poor mattress I was sleeping on

Yes I know my old mattress was hard and this is soft

Yes I know it is going to take time but ffs this is just ridiculous

As to the pillow, oh my god, who thought of that idea???? Pillow just equals small lump of granite and I cannot sleep on my back with it as I suspect I may well keep myself awake snoring otherwise I would

On the plus side, it was really comfy lying on my back, if only I didn’t snore so loud

On another plus side it’s my third week without coffee and drinking redbush instead, maybe the two together was a bad idea

you get different consistencies (is that the right word??) like with normal mattresses though - I took a colleague bedshopping when I bought mine and she'd had one for years that she hated, lay down on the one I had picked out and was in heaven.

i had the same problem,,,so i put my old mattress underneath,,,the beds a bit high,,,but its heaven now to sleep in.

I have ta have a really hard bed so those would not do for me

I tried one in a shop it was way too soft

I might try that though to be honest I think its more to do with the pillows now plus giving up coffee at the same time probably didnt help but am pleased that I have

Yes they do different depths for different sized people so possibly mine is a little too hard for me

Awful, bloody awful. It's like sleeping on the footpath, and the stink that comes off them in the 1st few weeks is terrible.

Yes they do different depths for different sized people so possibly mine is a little too hard for me

The foam also comes in different densities as well as depth.

I bought a memory foam mattress topper … it’s just 2 inches but fairly high density. On top of a regular mattress that works well.... comfort for sleeping and still plenty of bounce for bonking.

I love mine too! I have the best bed in the world!

Although my old matress was too heavy for me to lift off the bed so I just put the memory foam one on top of it!

I prefer my waterbed,great for the back, but it can get a bit like "The Perfect Storm" if things get overly exciting or overcrowded (no George Clooney though, just me-sorry ladies)

I have both a memory foam mattress and pillow and love both. But the pillow isn't one of the shaped ones but a traditional style so I can still sleep anyway. Been great for my back.

My advice for anyone thinking of buying one is buy the most expensive one you can afford, don't cut corners by purchasing one with a lesser known brand.

The deeper the top layer of foam the better, but stick to top manufacturers.

I have a memory foam pillow too... it's a big V shaped pillow... I've slept with one of those since I was little and the memory foam one is solid and brilliant and I love it and sleep like the dead!

Now if I could just get shot of the upstairs neighbours!!

that says to me that the matress you bought is too soft for you... simple answer..

I have a hard "memory foam" matress and it is brilliant for me.....

I love my memory foam bed and find it difficult when having to sleep on anything else..re holidays and premier inn stays .

Mind...when i got it...

I had to take a run and then jump on it as it was sooooo high.

Now its soooooooo lovely and never have any complaints from he who stays occasionally

Sounds as though you need a good rub down.

We have one and after about a week got use to it, maybe yours is to hard try you own pillows at first as well, that work for us. Good luck.

We did, I think it cost just under 500 quid or some equally bloody silly amount and it's still like sleeping on the footpath

The website I bought it from suggested the softer one as i am slim, the firm ones were for those people who are not. Also I used to sleep on a soft mattress years ago, best one I ever had, slept like a baby

had mine for 7 years and love it - not ha backache or shoulder ache since. Mind is not all that soft, for me just right. Would suggest a topper as others suggested to see if that brings relief? Other than that, could you send it back?

Not so sure on that as I work with a few people that didnt like them at all and only a couple of people that like them. Maybe if I could get used to it, I may change my mind

I don't want to imply you been silly, but you do have it the right side up? Unlike other types only one side has the memory foam on, the other is the solid base foam! :D

Having read so may negative comments about the matress am now glad when I moved in September I idn't buy one.

To be honest I did try four in the shop, one was almost £1,000 but it wasn't at all comfy , so I decided not to have it and the matress I bought is wonderful, right support for me, no neck or back pains since....shame it is so heavy I need help turning it, luckily I have pals who help lol

i was advised by my chiropractor to get one.

Must admit its great, although i cant use the pillows, as i feel too 'propped up'.

Maybe u need to get ur back sorted by a physio/osteopath/chiropractor, then u will be out of pain and sleep better?

Possibly the right side up then. Also what kind of base is it on? This can affect the feel quite dramatically as obviously a soft base will translate to a soft/sinking mattress.

Memory foam also takes about 5 minutes to "activate" as the active bit is temperature sensitive.

Mine was £200 for a king size and has a good foam core with ~3" memory foam on top. The comfiest bed in the world! (and so says all who have experienced it!).

I suspect like sprung mattresses there is a wide range of types.

We got one that cost a fortune and I had the same problems as you greykitten,Hubby says its the most comfortable thing he has slept on but I thought I had done something at work to make my back shoulders and neck hurt so much,one day I could barely move!

Its fine now though and I find it really comfortable so I hope you find the same soon
