How do you cope with this?.Any advice ppl ??X

I do. It's not too bad during the day as I barely notice it. But becomes noticeable at night and it used to keep me awake. I find the best thing to do is to put the radio on a very low volume. It drowns out the tinnitus but make sure its low enough for jingles etc not to wake you in once asleep.

Radio on all the time and i also use pink noise recordings on you tube

If you go online and google sounds to help tinitus you may be able to work out which one helps you the most

It's been discussed before, so a search might throw up some other points.

I've got it constantly, it's a little varied, though can be made worse by noise. I'm not a fan of using sounds to mask it.

Reducing stress really helps, keeping it sublimated to a lesser problem. Good rest and sleep is also important for me - though it can be a vicious circle, with tinnitus preventing sleep. It's bad atm as I think having a lot on is creating stress, keeping my arousal level higher and thus opening myself up to noticing it more - that's my theory.

I find that some noises in particular will make it worse, including driving noise. So I have shorter bursts of exposure, by driving less etc. I also live in a more tranquil place because of ot.

I have it too and get dizzy spells at times, have you sen your GP? they can do a blood test as there are a certain conditions that can cause Tinnitus like hypothyroidism which is treatable. Mine can be noisier than the TV at times so I find having headphones in with low volume can block it, weirdly it never stops me sleeping!

I've been to the gp/hospital nothing they can do apart from asking me to pop pills and do Cawthorne cooksey exercises.

being tired makes mine louder. most of the time i can tune it out and not hear it but when chatting to people in places where there's background noise i can struggle to hear.

shame not much can be done really.

I've had it for a while now. Mine sounds like badly tuned radio a high pitched whistle. when I first got it, it used to drive me mad but I managed to train myself to ignore it which I can unless I get stressed and then the pitch changes.

My life was hell because of it for the first few years, so I'm a bit touchy on this one.

I know if you don't have it, it probably doesn't seem like much, but Imagine everyday of your life the first thing you hear (if you've managed to sleep through it) is a high pitched whine. Doesn't exactly set your day up well and then it's there all day, every day.

OP - you do adapt though. It dominated my life for a long time, but it really doesn't now.

Don't for one minute think that I don't have sympathy. I myself have had health issues. Humour and self-effacement has been a help to me.

I contemplated topping myself a few years ago,yes my tinnitus is that bad,im probably still her because i want to see my grandkids grow up

I do. I didn't realise the noise I was hearing all my life was tinnitus until it changed drastically.

I now have different noises in each ear. If that holds steady then all is relatively well. If they change then my balance goes and I feel nauseous. The worst is when the noises stop completely, suddenly, and my hearing volume control notches up to 11. That is extremely painful.

I have some external noise on all the time until I sleep. I manage my liquid levels so that I don't drink too much as that seems to make it worse. I do yoga to help with balance. I haven't found any correlation with foods but others do find dairy can make it worse. Stress doesn't help.

Contact the British Tinnitus Association for information and their forum.

Its also a viceous circle,tinnitus makes me stressed and when i get stressed it make my tinnitus worse,but stress manifests itself in ugly ways also

NI have a couple of white noise apps on my phone that I use when I want to read a book. I can manage to sleep on mine but for some reason find stuff like reading silently quite hard.

I wish they would hurry up and find some cures!

I got one of those sleep pillows but it seemed to increase the noise in my head...weird

Alcohol can make it worse.

The white noise just makes my head hurt.

You get used to it after a while and mine has become the norm for me. It only really affects me when I am ill or stressed as the noise increases dramatically.

Mine drives me to the point of insanity. It has now made me deaf because I am constantly fighting a battle to ignore the discordant sounds in my head.

I've had mine since being a small child and it had only become more significant since developing pernicious anaemia.

Today my head is thumping because the noise is too loud and I can't make it shut off.

Best way to remedy for it, is to use hearing protection in noisy environment, also not to use in ear headphones loudly.

On a serious note, you manage the condition. There are things out there that can help alleviate the symptoms, go and see your doctor. I know someone who had tinnitus, but it was wax build up.

Yes, noise induced for me. Thing is to just carry on with life, stop listening to it. I did and although it,s there it,s like any other continuous noise you don't notice it as much. H,ve had it years now. Talk to your doctor and get checked as there's a few things that can cause it, esp. With your dizzyness. I don't have that. Your hearing and balance nervous systems are linked so get it checked out.
