There has been an increase in racist incidents reported in the news in the wake of the referendum.

Some state that the decision has emboldened racist elements in society, who now believe that it's become legitimate to be a bigot.

Examples of this are the anti polish notices posted through people's doors in Cambridge

And the incident on a Manchester tram where a group of youths used racist insults and threatening behaviour against a foreigner.

Not to mention the Facebook campaign to bring back the golly*** which stated now we have voted leave can we let this fella back in.

What are people's opinions on this

Basically though it's a tiny fraction of society, leaving and an emboldened UKIP voice have given racist and xenophobes within our society the notion that 'political correctness' is no longer a thing. In other words, these people with these sentiments feel as though they no longer have to confine their opinions to internet rantings and their thoughts.

It doesn't help that Farage is currently riding the out vote gravy train in Brussels and gloating to the EU commission -rather than actually getting British society which listened to him under control.

I was just making the point that Facebook made the assertion that now we have voted leave an artifact that many consider a representation of racial oppression is now ok again.

I imagine OP hopes the level headed people on the leave side will join him in condemning sentiments which, if they belong anywhere, either belong in Britain's Imperial days, or up the arses of racists themselves.

Honestly think this is getting out of hand but on my Facebook account yesterday was English girl being attack my polish and others for no reason. If people don't like Britain than maybe it's time to leave and I'm one that people who may attack others than English should be deal with as well. IM NOT RACISTS has no one has the right to attack anyone but this is Britain and we also have rules the same as we have to when visiting other countries

My daughter had a golly that came everwhere with us, she is 21 not 60 and loved it.

Stop making issues out of things that aint there in the golly case or have always existed in certain areas of Britain.

We have always had them and some of them with their beliefs will be feeling emboldened in those beliefs given the xenophobia that farage likes to tap into its hardly a surprise sadly enough..

Maybe when things settle and whatever deal emerges they may slide back under their stones but it could be a long and for some in our society a pretty shit time..

I'm sure there were racist elements in this country before the referendum, what I'm asking is has the leave vote made these elements believe that it's more acceptable.

I personally don't have a problem with gollywogs, it's just that the person that started the campaign made the connection with leaving the eu and bringing them back. That was the point I was making. The link in that persons mind with something that actually some people do find offensive and the leaving of the EU

How exactly? This is the institution which gives asylum seekers of any race, culture, and religion the same rights of a born EU citizen once they are registered.

If you are going to use the whole, "free movement of people within the EU discriminates against of nationalities and peoples who would love to contribute to Europe" then please think again, as a Japanese couple on my street explained, anyone can apply to for a visa to work and live in Britain, then for British citizenship. Even they said that some leave campaigners were poking at a pile of shit with that remark.

OP, I made the comment on another thread that this vote appears to have given some people the view that they can act with impunity now.

A thread on here will just air the same views that always get aired. Those that believe they aren't racist but buy into racist arguments will say what they always say. There is no swaying them. To say anything they don't approve will get me more messages that I am PC gone mad and/or playing the race card. Or I might get another message telling me I should state that I'm not white on my profile so they know to block me.

It's going to get nastier for a while but I hope the sensible Brits will help calm this.

I've lost a lot of Facebook "friends" due to this referendum, not because we voted differently but because this whole thing has brought out their inner cockwomble, they believe they can suddenly be downright rude to all and sundry because we had a vote about something they didn't bother reading the fine print to.

On the bright side, it's streamlined my Facebook no end....the trash took itself out!

I watched the video of the 3 youths on the tram in Manchester and the thing that struck me about it was the tram was full and it was 2 or 3 ladies that got between the young thugs and their target.

Not a single man stepped up to put an end to the thugs violence. If it were not for the women that man would have been beaten up on that tram.

We have turned into a nation of politically correct, risk adverse, curtain twitchers who cower behind our front doors and believe our civic responsibilities end at our front gate. This allows thugs freedom to do as they will and will continue until we as a nation find our backbone and start slapping down the thugs when they start rather than sitting idle or videoing them for social media.

Just my opinion.

We had muslims oost notices areas where sharia only or muslim only...did anyone think it was legitimate?

There are dozens of viedos of people being racist on busses and trams off all colours it was a whole thing s few years ago.

Basicaly nothings differnt than yesterday except a paper can link them all under one story arc
