He won't go - he's enjoying watching the Labour Party implode.

I usually agree with you Steve, but in this instance it would be good to have someone in power that the markets might believe.

If he resigned now the markets would get even worse as David Cameron would have to find another chancellor. The best idea is to install a new prime minister and let him decide on who should be chancellor.

Eh, give someone else a go. We seem to be following that with PM, Shadow Cabinet, etc etc.

I'm pretty good at maths.

I don't think he's planning on remaining as Chancellor for two long.

Is it Wyrdwoman's decision?

If so I need to whisper in her ear.

He can't resign. He said twice in the same speech this morning that he had "a very important job".

Yes, but not for his EU involvement

he should resign for wanting to raise retirement age to 75, which he wanted to do last year but it was voted down

With an ever ageing population and no immigrants to work, we need someone to do it...

My 2nd job starts in 20 mins! So what do we do with an ageing population and fewer people to work? Do we make the 18-65 work longer to make up for it?

I would like to see him go but I don't think he will. I wouldn't be surprised if he has his own agenda in the upcoming leadership battle as they all seem to be out for their own gains. Maybe he wants to be seen as the saviour in this, who knows!

He was adamant he would have to do it immediately yet he's backed out and why do we need a budget anyway?

In the markets he does have authority. Right now we need some stability and some reassurance otherwise the run on £ will continue, interest rates will have to rise, unemployment will rise and we will be in deep do do. This is based on it happening like this in the past, so before it happens - i told you so!

At the moment the pound is going down because it has to the scaremongering pretty Thursday meant a huge run on the dollar and they need it to drop to cash in but as less and less people buy it will have to go back up so I won't worry too much unless it's at this level three months from now and ftse pretty stable still higher than low point on friday

Trashing the construction sector? I've never seen so bloody many houses being built!!! Not just here but I've had reason to travel this year - almost every town and village I was in had new building projects going on.

Perhaps, instead of politicians resigning en-masse, quitting or getting fired; the people elected to run this country should all grow some balls and actually get on with steering the country through this turbulent time.

Because so far very few of them have actually shown any sign of having a pair - including the majority of all those who were busy whoring themselves on either side in the campaign.

The whole thing has shown me how bad a great many of our MPs are
