I said "sensible lad"

Is that all you've got to say about it, she said.

Hats off to the lad for being prepared. Yes he's under 16 but plenty of U16s will be having sex.

I'd sit down and have a chat with him, I'd focus on the positives that he's actually taken an interest in contraception.

End of the day it's natural to be interested in sex at 15 he's only doing what his hormones are telling him to do. Think of it this way your less likely to be a grandad or have him worried he's got the clap or worse.

Personally I think it's a good idea as not many teenagers can ask their parents to go on the pill and its better than them getting pregnant

We had the chat a while ago. My eldest knows where they're kept in my room. He also knows he has 14 more months before he can lay a finger on a girl providing she is also over 16.

He's not kissed a girl yet so think we're a long way off yet.

However, I'd like to think of anything did happen he would be sensible enough to use protection

When I worked with the Probation Service I had a case of 2 15 yr olds. She got pregnant. Her dad had him prosecuted. He got a 3 year suspended youth sentence & was placed on sex offenders register. He had wanted to be a teacher.

No idea. Her daddy was fairly high up in the police though so I think it was a case of him saving face. As soon as they were old enough she went to live with him & his family. I've often wondered what happened to them - I like to think they had some sort of happy ending

The law would only take action if one of the duo having sex was much older than 16 and the other was a fair bit under 16. Even then it's up to the younger party to provide the evidence to support a prosecution. It seldom happens between consenting partners who are both under 16, safeguarding may be put in place but rarely a prosecution.

Clearly it will be a bit embarrassing for both of you, but a good light hearted brief chat should help followed up with 'check-in chats' so that he knows he can approach you and it wont be a big deal. I think he's a very sensible young man and has obv been brought up well.

My daughter is 14 & we are both very open and honest about sex. I've condoms here IF she needs them. Plus she knows I'm on a nawty website and that I meet men/women for sex. I was sexually active at a young age. So I know I've got to educate her and hope that she trusts me with anything and everything in her life. Xxx
