My son learned and we had a drum kit in the dining room for a few years till he left home. It looked incredibly difficult to me...each limb is doing something different to the others, worse than driving a car...but many people do manage, I would suggest a taster drum lesson before splashing out on a kit though, as even second hand they are expensive. The electric ones are ridiculously priced too!

Imagine living next door to a drummer

Worst. Thing. Ever.

Good luck with your music making though OP - if you want to get into drums do it! Just be considerate to others around you

Im a drummer, been playing since I was 13 so 11 years now.

Starting to learn the drums is a hell of a lot harder than guitar or bass for example. Maybe it's just me but I picked guitar playing up loads quicker.

Get a teacher who will also teach the theory side of things, reading sheet music and understanding it will make you a better drummer.

My personal style of playing is heavy and fast, lots of China cymbals and blast beats...not too many traditional teachers will go down that route though so once you've got a couple of years under your belt you'll begin to develop your own style. Any questions just ask

Imagine living next door to a drummer who's car also produces more than 144 decibels

I'm actually extremely considerate believe it or not. Just have the ability to be louder than most

Pendulum sounds good but there's no real level of skill in anything they play.

Search buddy rich if you want to see some skill.

Speed wise - check our rings of Saturn and dragonforce.

Joey jordison is also a great technical drummer.

Get an electric practice drumkit. You can use headphones to keep neighbours happy, bash away as much as you like, it takes up much less room than an acoustic kit and is much easier to transport in your car. One pro drummer friend has sold his acoustic kit and does all his gigs with his electric kit!

Get lessons and enjoy!

Be careful what you learn on YouTube, There are experts and there are idiots who think they're experts. Get a proper professional teacher. It's a false economy to do anything else!

I play drums and have done since childhood.

Being a Scot I started with my local Pipe Band and took it from there

I currently play in 2 bands. One a 70's-80's cover band and the iter a hardcore punk band.

Having learned all the basic stick rudiments of a pipe band drummer which is much more complicated than a kit I moved initially into Rock drumming.

However no matter what. the internet tells you about guys like Neil Peart, John Bonham etc none of them match the old time guys like Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich

At present I listen to Vinnie Coliuta who is a Jazz/Prog rick drummer known mainly for his work with Zappa.

OP go on line and look for the Drumeo website. Jared Falk also has a FREE dr lessons website too. I would definitely recommend it for a complete novice gettin into drumming
