I left the EU....NOT Europe

I'm an educated, professional male who voted out.

I am neither racist, sexist, anti Semitic, or indeed species-ist. I'm not stupid, ignorant, intolerant or unkind, but I did vote out.

Like many i am a little nervous, wondering what the future will bring, I would have had equal concerns if we had remained in... but I voted with the right intentions and for a better future for us all.

I want to live in a country where differences in culture are embraced and it's ok to laugh together at our idiosyncrasies and beliefs. Most comedians make a career out of sharing amusing anecdotes and stories of their upbringing whether from Yorkshire, Lancashire, India, Pakistan, Germany etc.

Working hard and contributing together to create a Great Britain to be proud of.

I don't love or respect Europe any less..I will still enjoy trips to Europe and buy European products,

BUT... I won't sit around and bitterly accuse people of being idiots or stupid and try and scare people with predictions of what may or may not happen.

I will do what my parents taught me to do..through extremely hard times whilst being part of the EU I add..

If the situation gets bad I will stand up and make the situation the best it can be.

I voted to leave a failing system that was a big lie when it was sold to my parents.

I voted to leave the EU not Europe.

I still don't get people bitching about who will lead our country while being perfectly happy to be led by faceless bureaucracy in Europe that may not have our best interests at heart.

Well then argue and protest about it diplomatically, which is something most on both sides are failing to do, it's just name calling and biased sacaremongerinh arguments that are being presented.

One argument for remain that I never understood was that people agreed that the EU is out of touch and on need of reform, that that reform could come from Britain continuing to be a member as before. Change won't happen like that because the EU is constitutional, it's rules and ideals are set in stone. For many a leave vote was the chance to send a wake up call to the system and a chance to voice their frustration at being ignored.

I whole-heartedly agree with you. I too voted out but am not a racist or such-like and also have some trepidation that things might go badly wrong at some point in the future. However, I can also see that things could have equally got worse for us, had we not. The sad thing about this whole referendum is that it has divided our nation. It was a very close vote, I would have been happier if there had been a land-slide win for one or the other camp.

I mostly ignored all the hype from both camps, although in our house-hold we received a both a booklet from the Government telling us that we are better off staying and my son got a letter, (addressed to him personally, not a generic one like the booklet) from Alan Sugar telling him the reasons why we are better off staying in.

In my opinion, remaining IN was a bad decision and that was why I voted OUT. For those people who have levelled an accusation that the 'oldies' took us out, I can say this, I have spoken to a number of young people and they wanted out, as have a number of friends who are from another EU country.

Things might get tough, the Government has predicted that they might (and they have the power to make it so), but if we remember that we have gone through worse and survived, we will be fine. I don't expect miracles over-night; our schools and hospitals, GPs and Police forces will still struggle to maintain a service with increasingly smaller budgets, but at least we can say that it is our money going into (or not, as the case may be) them rather than being told where to spend money by people who don't know who or what we are, nor care.

Absolutely.

I'm as proud a Welshman and supporter of the Union and I've taken abuse for politely arguing for remain.

It would be the same if it was 52:48 the other way, especially as Farage explicitly stated a narrow vote like that would not be the end of the matter.

"

After reading this post , I have to say that this is exactly how we feel too .

Perfectly sums up why we voted out too .

I voted out, and not ashamed to admit it. But to be called, naive, unemployed, bigoted, racist etc by many posters on here is darn right rude. Im a university educated, employed in finance, middle aged white guy so based on what the demographic should have been I should have been a remain voter. I didn't vote based solely on immigration, economy, or a multitude of other singular ideals. I based my vote on a culmination of all those things, and it led me to the leave vote. I believe that democracy was the pure winner in the referendum, with neither side covering themselves in glory in the aftermath, but the fact that the British people were allowed to vote speaks volumes for our democratic process and our right to choose, and that's exactly what happened. The people who voted chose to vote Leave as a majority. If people didn't vote then that was their democratic decision to not do so. To the people who voted a Remain, again that was their democratic right. There was never going to be an absolute winner out of all this, and whatever the result was going to be, it was going to divide the nation. Now it's up to our elected leaders to make sure that the will of the people is adhered to, and make sure that they do listen to the concerns from both Leave and Remain supporters and make this country great again.

"Just like you're entitled to bang on and on about it, so is everyone else.

I will be unemployed soon as a result of brexit, my money is already worth shit all abroad and i've probably lost money on the value of my home which I only bought in March and I soon won't be able to afford due to unemployment.

So from the bottom of my heart thank you so much for your well educated vote.

May I ask why you'll be unemployed?

Because my employer got 55 million quid a year from EU grants. So myself and many others will be out of jobs.

Sorry to hear that.

Out of curiosity what is the business that you are in and why was it eligible to over a million pound a week ?"

A council. And guess what we use 55 million pounds for? Infrastructure, schools, social services, environment...I could go on. All will suffer.

So, within less than 24 hours of your so called educated informed vote has:

- Resulted in us becoming a less powerful country (France has moved ahead of us)

- largest currency slide since 1985

- billions wiped of the stockmarket (decreased to value of our pensions)

- increased xenophobia in the UK

So that was a good decision wasn't it. Can't wait to see what 'great' things will happen next week.

Oh and I have just applied for my Irish passport as I am now embarrassed to call myself British!

Good bye then

But you'll always be born British regardless so you might as well got over it now because what's done is done

And just remembers things tend to get worse before they get better but they usually do get better given enough time

Liverpool

(removes gas mask and replaces the 80000 tins of baked beans....... phew, no world war 3 then!)

i don't get where the info that it was the older generation who voted out..... where has that come from? no info is on our voting cards, but also even if it was mostly the older generation.... maybe the young in voters need to remember the older generation remember how we survived pre EU, when the EU happened, and how we recovered both times.

I have many friends who are EU nationals living here, on my Facebook, it's funny that these are the only ones who are mad we have left the EU, most posting things like."I will pack my bag ready for the knock on the door now" "thank u UK we now know we arnt wanted here" "I pay my taxes and love this country yet u want to kick us out". my partner is a EU national, he so far is the only one I know who has supported the leave campaign.

I'm gonna say now, I voted out mostly on the immigration issue so we can control our own borders. Canada, Australia and the likes do the same....... they have MANY MANY "other nationals" living there, why would we not be the same? when I say I want immigration control I am not saying I only want English people here, if u can bring a trade or a skill or do the work lazy English turn down then I welcome u with open arms...... this country is a tiny island and we are going to sink if we can't control our own borders

come on people grow up, im sure there will be a few months of uncertainty like when anything new happens,it's happened, let's embrace it and help our country grow,we have a great relationship with every European country, just because we are no longer part of there laws, doesn't mean we have fallen out! I think alot of other EU countries will now follow us.

A convincing argument. You don't think that by cutting our funding by FIFTY FIVE MILLION POUNDS (for just ONE council) will have an impact? Ok!

Some of the people I have spoken to aren't against immigration, they are against mass immigration by people who have no job to come to (which Cameron said they would have to have). If you lived in an area of mass immigration you might see why people voted out there. These are the places where the standard of living is low anyway, house prices and private rents are being pushed up swiftly and wages haven't increased to match them.

Of course it will have an impact, it will no doubt get worse before it gets better but it will be overcome in the long run councils always funding from somewhere. The amount of times my local council have said sorry we don't have the funding to resolve such and such of an issue, fast forward a few months it gets resolved

I live in an area that voted OUT and we also have a lot of immigrants come here and settle without jobs, homes or families. They camp out on river banks, catching and eating the local wildlife like swans, ducks etc. I think this might prove your point, however, as I said in another post, this is not the reason I voted OUT.

I got made redundant in the great recession I'm still standing

When the referendum was first suggested I predicted then the majority would vote out, so I decided to hold off on buying my home because I knew prices would fall and it would be more viable to wait until the market re-stabilised (which it will in time it does after any crash so does the economy as a whole look at all the recessions we've survived) and I switched jobs from an EU funded one, now I'm realistic to know that won't guarantee my job security, but it put be in a better stance to do so, it's all about choices and all choices have positive and negative consequences.

The U.K. Majority as made a choice it's one that you disagree with and unfortunately doesn't go in your favour, it's time to make the best of it, time to sweat blood and tears for the council and maybe even kiss a few arses if need be to become an asset to them so that your not left signing on when the redundancy money runs out, go over your mortgage agreement to find if there's anything that can help you out in the event of redundancy perhaps switch mortgage providers if viable to do so, take it on positively, you will find away through this is you want it enough to fight for it, instead of sitting around blaming the Out voters
