Why do you think is it so addictive and I keep going back for more. I mean it hurts when you have it done then it stings for days and when it as settled down I go back and have some more done.

Ink on the elderly looks truly awful.. sometimes i think 'why the hell have you ruined your body with crap'

the clients i had with tattoo's often regretted it, but at the time it was a good idea.

When I interview people for shop assistant jobs with me I place a lot of emphasis on appearance, sorry to say that anyone with a visible tattoo wouldn't be employed in my business.

I know ink lovers don't like to hear this but shop customers, in particularly those buying food stuffs, can be very fickle when making purchases.

So tattoos on young women's hands, necks and lower arms is a no go for me when employing them....also facial piercings.

Two of my daughter's have tattoos: why I don't know as I think they look hideous on women. They have such beautiful caramel skin, why, is beyond me, but they're adults so I just keep my own counsel.

Their boyfriends are no better. My soon to be son-in-law is ex Royal Navy, ex Royal Marine...you can imagine the inkwork on him!

I won't employ anyone with visible tattoos either! I must say they look OK when newish, but they soon leech out one colour into another and after 15 years or so, start to look dull.

A friend of mine who has several was telling us how they still looked like the day he had them. (10 years for the last one) so I showed him a photo! He was shocked to say the least!

But under ANY circumstances, I can never consider them sexy!!!!

Hate to disagree with u but I've had my small discreet one for well over fifteen yrs. I don't know if its down to the artist or the fact that I always use sun block on it. But it still looks fresh and the colours distinct!!

I'm very happy with what I've got, so not looking to add more.

And I did carefully consider where to have it, re work etc.

I keep going back for more. I love tattoos. I don't feel pain when I have them done. Fell asleep during my last one.

But I get a massive adrenalin rush from them. So I think thats why I keep going back for more.

None of mine are visible. And to an extent I agree with them holding people back from work, especially front facing roles. I've turned down a person for a job for having a visible tattoo before, but it was a swastika on his neck!!!

There's more and more people getting tattoos done now. To what there used to be due to media coverage and peer presure of all the bands that's about covered in them too. I've got quite a few tattoos and my first one realy hurt. But now I just sit there and enjoy it. I'm always looking for new and exciting work to have done. It's more like a personal collection of art. To take anywhere and look at anytime. My last on I sat for 6 half hours to get it done at a convention. Also women with tattoos yes please specialy those on the suicide girls site..

Personal opinion only..I think some of them are works of art..done by very talented people..but on a human?..nah..

No one has yet considered how hideous sleeves are going to look when they hit 65-70+..

Ok a lot of people have them done for personal reasons..but why people want them done to look like a 'brudda from da hood' or a Maori warrior?...I bet half the people with the tribal stuff dont even know what a Maori is!..is it just to look 'ard' and intimidating?

Stars on the neck...Mandarin etchings about love and peace spilling out of someones midrift..hanging over their waist band..red indians? (why???) or Cheryl Coles 'autograph' on the underside of the hand (women only)...people think it makes em look individual...it doesnt.

I dont mind little dinky ones on women...and appropriately proportioned ones on men...but big tatts on women with big arms just look butch IMO ...and blokes with tribal/big tatts on boney skinny white arms just look ...well...wrong.

The ink industry owe David Beckham Cheryl Cole and a lot of other celebs a massive thank you...

That said...its their bodies and they are totally entitled to do what they want...I respect that (especially as I have none, I dont do pain!!)

of course they are individual and in a way makes you individual. personally i dont think having them done really hurts. I dont really like loads on women either, but they are god dam addicitve, im trying to stop extending mine. Although if i had the cash i would like one last one from my back around my side slightly onto my front. I have considered what they will look like when im in my 80's, but i guess by then ill still be with the man i love and i wont really care. xxx

soft ink free skin is the way forward,fads come and go but with skin ou only get one so why turn it into a billboard?

I adore my tattoos, and I adore the reaction they invoke, as and when I choose to show them.

My main piece is a dragon down my spine, with background detail. A few months after I'd had it done, I was meeting my mum in town, and had a backless top on. I felt someone run their finger down my spine, and stroke my back, I swung around, ready to deck whoever was touching me up inappropriately, only to find a little old lady, staring at it saying, I'm sorry love, I only wanted to know what it felt like. She was fascinated, and wanted to know all about it. She finished the conversation by saying she wished she'd have been able to have something done when she was young.

Of course I've thought about what my tats will look like when I'm old. And to be honest, I don't care now what people think of them, I'm damned sure I won't care when I'm 80 sitting in a nursing home, smelling of wee, unable to remember my own name!!!

a relative we have thought the same way getting various tatoos on his torso in his 20s and 30s

he is now too embarrased to wear short sleeves or go without a shirt in the summer,its becuase of this i myself wont have any done.

i see his grey fading colourless tatts of 40 years with no detail,just blurred images of a mis spent youth.

individuality you can keep it,without ink you have it anyway.

fashions do change but you can replace a coat or boots but you cant replace an arm or a leg or a body?

tattoo removal with the scarring it leaves will soon be the new fad,ive heard more people saying they wish they hadnt done it than vice versa.

I too disagree with "fashionable" tattoos. I hate when I do my voluntary work and see children under the age of 18 with them. Not withstanding its illegal for them to be tattoo'd, and the artist can get put on the sex offenders register, its the fact they've just copied what others are doing. There is no originality to their designs, no art.

Older designs do fade, but 40 years ago, ink wasn't as good quality as it is now, and after care isn't as good, and also our skin is in better condition now then it was. Yes, tattoos are still going to fade, but hopefully, if done right, and looked after properly, then they won't resemble the blotchy mess, some do 40 years on.

i had my 6th tattoo today .i had my foot done and yes it hurt but its the finnal product makes it worth while .

i fully respect that tattoos arent for everyone and certain wouldnt have an issue if someone didnt want to meet me because of them . my choice for self exspression and their choice if that is something that would be a deal breaker or not . x

I do have a tattoo on my foot and I am glad I had it done and I love it and I never let the sun get to it, always protect it with sunblock, but I wouldnt have any more.

I researched before having it done and went to a tattoo artist who had very good recommendations. Visited him and asked questions before deciding. For me its not just the thought of what it will be like in 20 years time, its the infection risk.

I asked about sterilising etc and also the need to use individual pots of ink. So many tattooists fill their little pots up with ink from a large container, if they havent used all of the ink, then put it back into the big container, contaminating that large container with blood particles. Its why I would never go to a cheap tattooist. Always spend as much money as you possibly can and ask questions. Even then its not definite. I would only have a tattoo done if the pots of ink were single use and sealed.

My first tattoo seemed to be a rites of passage from a boy into manhaood, I joined the army at 16 then it seemed the right thing to do, 3 of us had the same design done as a mark of friendship sadly though 1 of the guys brothers was in the same regiment and killed in NI.(RIP my friend) Now it is a sign of respect and I would never get that 1 recovered or removed. All the others have been covered up.

I have 2 tattoos on my lower arms and also have face piecing and i work in a shop face to face and also as a bouncer and i have never been told they look bad i have also worked for tescos who dont like tattoos on lower arms but as mine are my kids name they cant say they are not tastefull

For me the most important thing for my small business is whether the customers find face piercings and face/neck/hand tattoos tasteful....not whether a shop assistant deems their tattoos to be tasteful.

You sink or swim on the strength of the sales in a small business, not on the strength of the artistic look of a sales assistant.

as a male of 45 i see the tatts lads had done 25 years ago , the old chestnut they came out with then was needles are sharper and thinner and better quality,guess what apart from designs that they had grown out of being etched on there lives till they finally kick the bucket those thin sharper needles arent any different and the blotchy inked patterns are as bad as the older generations abominations.

Serious point though - very very few tattoos are individual and unique. I thought I wanted one but then realised that every man and his dog had them and that most of them are naff or poorly executed.

These days it is far more individual NOT to have a tattoo.

Not dissing people who have them just saying ...

80% of my tattoos are not from the general on the wall charts that you find in the tattoist. I've searched endlessly for designs on the Internet. To hopefully find ones that nobody or very very few people would have. Some of which I've got I know definatly are 100% percent unique for me. My interest in tattoos as grown over the years to now have them personally designed by reputable artists. But that comes at a cost. But would you buy a arena poster to go over your mantle piece or some signed genuine art??? It's a good thing we all have individual tastes and individual needs. Some people don't go for those with tattoos. But when the lights out can you see or feel them???? Unless you have a Braille one...

Same here - mine is all 14th century Japanese artwork, took a longtime to work out what I wanted and left the artist to come up with what he did, won't see another one for sure (fingers crossed)
