...and you're saying they've messed you about?

I'm half expecting to see a thread in a couple of hours where someone says they booked a hotel near to their meet, but he messed them about and cancelled at the last minute, even though they'd said they were on their way.

Cue the post in an hrs time from a couple saying they agreed to meet a single guy, they got a baby sitter, booked a hotel, they text him to say they would be there in 2 hrs and he didnt turn up...what a timewaster, should be allowed to name and shame etc etc

i think there was a gap in your communication.

next time, think of what you need to ask and agree on...the one thing you should get from each meet is what you do or don't want to take into the next one

i don't think it's reasonable to blame anyone in this instance, if the time was an issue for you then you should have made that clear when arranging.

chalk it up to experience

Well I sympathise with you mate!

My friend has been let down on a meet tonight as well by a guy that booked a hotel room and tickets and has been as keen as mustard all week. (why mustard is keen I don't know) Then today hasn't answered text message. She feels messed around and weekend wasted. But there's always next weekend! Why people can't just message to say sorry changed my mind I don't know.

Agreed 100% with BB on this.

You may have been inconvenienced, but I wouldn't say you've necessarily been messed around.

And if the person / people you're meeting really did leave and were driving for 2hrs then I hope you've at least told them you've gone home, otherwise, in my opinion, they're the ones who'll have been messed around... and that's not even taking the cost of the hotel into the equation, which you said you hadn't contributed to up front.

some folk put the nearest largest town on their profile...it's possibly where she prefers to play. not all folk want meets in their own area.

it's up to the individual where they want to play

I don't think you can class someone as a timewaster or saying they've messed you around just because they're not on time. I'd much rather someone turn up late than not turn up at all. But that's possibly because I'm usually late for stuff myself.

Did they explain why they were running late when you spoke to them?

if i have picked this up properly then your meet did not indicate that the hotel was a 2 hour journey for them (perhaps they should have)

a definite time for meet should have been set (not sure if it was)

communication is the key to ensure all parties are aware of where, what, when etc

if you agreed a time with them then yes its a pain if they wont be there on time but hardly end of the world !!! but from what i seen you never agreed an exact time ?? maybe lesson learned there for future .

as a cpl with family i know how trick things are organising . i may ask for inlaw to take lil one at a certain time and then get asked to take them to shops ect before we leave ... life happens !!! at lest they told you and WERE still coming !!! lots of folks been left waiting with no word and ppl nver gonna turn up !!!

so you couldnt go to room as booked by them but most hotels have a bar or at least near one so you quite easily gone there and waited . if you choose not to wait then end of the day thats YOUR choice . youll find most peoples concern is mking sure their own commitments are sorted first rather than if theyll be there on the dot waiting for you . nothing to do with you being a single guy so your wrong its about seeing it from all angles . if you want someone with no commitments and only them self to sort then arrange to meet a single guy with no family or single fem with no kids .if you meet cpls them other factors can come in to play and speaking personally my family comes FIRST not any meet .thats my priority as your single yours maywell differ ,if so as i say look for ppl in same position as you and youll avoid things like this

1 as ppl have said 2hrs may be local to them. or they could be local but not able to actully LEAVE for awhile .

2 you told em what time youd arrive but did you actually state a time to meet before ???? and they told you when you txt them how long theyd be !

3 they stated when theyd be there when easliy no bothered to replie at all let alone a time scale ! youll never know if theyd would of turned up for definate as you told them not to bother anyway

4 as i stated in previus post no rwason to sit in the car (hotel bar or near by pub ect )worst case as you live half hour awy go home and tell them to txt you when they are in room and youd be there in half hour lol !!

You are not going to like me saying this but.....

Six days ago you (The Op) started a thread complaining how difficult it is to get a meet on this site.

Then Four days later you get an offer for tonight, you must have been over the moon?....You got that elusive meet!

What is the very next thing you do?...You book a Meet Today, for today (Saturday), the very same day you have that elusive meet you have been waiting so long for!

Rings alarm bells to me, may have done for the other couple in question?

If they were running late by 2 hours(which is a huge amount of time) and received a text from this chap to say he had left for their I think the couple should of told he that they were running so far behind time as would have known that probably a good hour and a half before they finally decided to tell him! I wouldn't want to wait for 2 hours either. I think they should have re-arranged if something was delaying them by 2 hours!!! Were not talking 20/30 minutes here.

"im sorry but 2 hours is not local you can drive a bloody long way in 2 hours"

I live 8 miles from work. I live and work off a main road: the south circular. The journey can take 90 minutes during rush hour: longer in adverse weather conditions!

It seems that you were messed around. Looks like they thought you'd wait regardless: well done you for not being a push over. Let's hope next time they'll respect other people's time: they've learnt an expensive lesson too.

In future make sure ground rules are set to avoid disappointment. Don't let this put you off.

Good luck!

Am I the only one thinking two hours have past since this thread started and...

A) The OP could be getting his rocks off instead of whinging about a 'failed meet'.

B) The meet has just arrived at the hotel looking for the OP because they haven't had a chance to check text/fab whilst driving.

C) The 'meet' saw the 'meet today' flag hadn't been removed after arranging a meet or noticed it had been put up after meet had been arranged and though 'sod it'.... he is still 'casting his net' I could do without a 2 hr drive in my combine harvester 5 miles up the road to meet someone that may get a better offer and not turn up.

Alternatively with Two hours to kill and being 30 minutes from home you could have......

Driven home....then driven back to the hotel.....then back home....and back to the hotel in time to see them arrive.

Job done!

A one sided account of a classic 'Timewasting' thread, never really works when we only hear one side of a tale.

I'll file this one under 'Timewasters' shall I?

"yes i do thats was for a day time meet"

Note to OP, In my opinion it's a school boy error to post a looking to meet on your profile for the same day as an arranged meet. I wouldn't like to think that you weren't solely interested in me if I was the arranged meet, even if it were for a different time of day!! It wasn't good karma was it.

It does look a bit suspicious you posting for a meet the same day that you have a planned meet with a couple in the evening. Seems to me they were waiting for you to turn up as they were half expecting you not to be there (having had a possible meet in the daytime).

Yes 2 hours is a long time and not nice to have to wait that long, but if you only lived 30 minutes away, you could have gone back home and just waited there. They had booked the hotel in readiness.

I just got up so not in a good mood!

Seems to me the op is a bit juvenile, I'm taking my ball...lol away and not playing (pout). some people have lives away from swinging, and could have a thousand genuine reasons for being late. and we would have no problem with waiting for that time.

op is the timewaster here, costing the couple a hotel room and a wasted night.

Note to self: Never meet single guys unless in a club, unless you can be certain they are not schoolboys.

From my reading the op's complaint is that there was a time arranged, he texted to confirm that he was ready and would be there and was leaving and would be there in half a hour.

To recieve a text from the couple saying they would be 2 hours late.

10/15 minutes is being late, 2 hours is taking the piss!

I wouldnt hang around waiting 2 hours for someone.

I agree and also so what if he had a meet invitation posted - nothing wrong with hedging your bets.

It is the same as (and this has happened to me) having a meet arranged having chatted for a while and verified each other and then getting cancelled on 10 minutes before he was due to arrive. I was really pissed off so came on FS and found a local guy who was more than happy to fill in. Posting a meet request just in case is not a crime in my opinion

A time was arranged to meet.

The O.P. put up a meet today flag despite wanting to be accepted as being trustworthy and sticking to arrangements.

The couple paid for the hotel.

The O.P left before knowing the others weren't on their way yet.

He received a reply to say they would be late.

At this point he has a decision to make.

1. Wait in a coffee bar and read or a pub or at home thinking dirty thoughts.

2. Text them and cancel as the wait is unnaceptable.

3. Leave them high and dry without a text so that they arrive at the hotel and find him gone.

Everything else is irrelevant.

Did you text them to say you wouldn't wait ?

These are not life and death issues. It's a badly planned meet.

Come back and tell me the one where you got to the hotel and lurched at the woman on the bed only to find it was drag queen who tied you down abused you stole your wallet, dripped hot wax on your beaming bell end , turned your sexual tastes beyond your imagination leaving you trawlling the streets on dark Saturday nights forcing your hands up unsuspecting men's dresses!

I did say I'm not a happy bunny in the mornings! but in my opinion,

10/15 mins is not late.

An hour or more is late, but they texted,

gave an updated time, whats the problem? It happens!

A grown up would have understood and looked forward to the meet, not gone home in a huff and complained on a forum!

Unless of course it's just a story to gain attention and a sympathy fuck!

The guy texted to tell them he was leaving they must have known they were nowhere near ready to leave so should have at least asked him to delay leaving. If I arrived at a meet and then got a text saying I will be there in 2 hours I wouldn't hang about. Up to 30 minutes waiting would be just about ok but 2 hours is taking the piss

sorry but the OP is not the time waster!!

what would you do if you were 5 mins from the hotel where you both AGREED to meet at the time you all agreed and your meet text you saying 'just leaving now, will be there in 2 hours '

would you go 'ok see you soon' or wuld you think 'what utter twat bags!!' they would have known ow long it takes them to get there, they would have known if they were going to be running late.

i run late for everything but even for me 2 hours late is taking the biscuit . yes people have lives outside of swinging but eueally people have the ability to understand this so if something had come up earlier in the day all they had to do was send a simple text saying that they coulnt make the original time and either arrange to meet later or another day.

ok so the OP put a meet today up on his profile for the same day but was it one of the ones where you can put what you are looking for? i.e. coud you see from his meet ad that he was looking for daytime fun and so would still be available for his meet in the evening with the couple in question?

has anyone considered that maybe they werent going to show and lump him with the whole hotel bill?? i'd be wary of anyone saying they will be 2 hours late without good explaination.

OP - 2 whinging threads on your first few weeks on a forum will not show you in a good light. as some have said, chalk it up to experience. i think you did the right thing and went home, so long as you told the couple you were going. i wouldnt want to sit about on me todd for 2 hours outside a hotel.

Why can't you come on here and have a whinge when people mess you around? Most people don't share there swinging lifestyle with their mates so surely this is the place to share and get it off your chest.

I think some people are a little unfair to this chap and perhaps a little cynical in their outlook. 2 hours is too long to wait around for anyone.

I don't wait for late people unless it suits me for a myriad of variables.

Had a time of been agreed they would have been there at the stated time unless something stopped them.

I find it difficult to believe that a time was agreed. Seems more likely that a time was indicated but not cemented.

Sometimes vague things are said like ...yeah around about 8 would be good for us too but text us when you are on your way.

So one person thinks 8. The others think - we need to wait for a text.

Just make CLEAR arrangements n double check them.

Fuck ... i hope no one here is in military planning .......cos we are fucked.

Personally I know how long it takes me to get ready,I know how long its going to take to get to where im going as I check so barring any disasters on the journey we're pretty good time keepers

If I was going to be delayed from leaving by 2 hours id be letting the meet know asap and arrange a later meeting time, you would know if things at home were going tits up and work around that surely? we have children,we know what its like when you sorting them out and trying to sort yourselves out too, anyone that does'nt realise that they're going to be 2 hrs late for a meet where the time has been arranged has poor time management skill and is'nt being very fair if they expect somene else to wait for them for 2 hrs

I would'nt expect anyone to be hanging around waiting for me and I would'nt be hanging around for 2 hours waiting for anyone else either

When I plan a meet, I would agree the following up front:

Where to meet

Time to meet

Who pays for what

Expectant time to finish

What to wear

What to bring

I always exchange phone numbers beforehand, and would text in advance if I am running late etc...

So far so good, and only ever had one who did not show up due to, allegedly, got the wrong place of meet.

Well said!! And (unless I have got this wrong) the guy TEXTED them to say I AM LEAVING NOW. If they had 2 hours travelling time (which is not clear anyway) they should have rung him IMMEDATELY and told him to wait.

Also, I am glad to see a couple standing up for a single guy. As someone said above if a couple had posted what he did would they have got the flack he has? I doubt it

This a forum where anyone can post their opinion and I take note of your views.

Sorry to have upset you so much.

I still think "It happens" and the op would have been better of waiting instead of "whinging on a forum"

I never denied the op's right to do so.

and yes, I do think the op is the timewaster, for the reasons I gave earlier.

For arguments sake,, say the people in question had arranged to meet at 8pm (OP leaving at 6), have 2-3 hours play and then travel back home.. if on schedule this would have meant that that OP would be home for midnight ish.. he could have had work in the morning or a childminder to get back for.If he had stayed for 2 hours to wait for the couple, he'd have been home 2 hours later. Meeting times are set for a reason, the couple didn't keep to those commitments.. so the OP wasn't time wasting.

exactly we only have ops version of the story .the cpl may well have different version of events ! personally that fact he said they never gave a reason for the 2 hr wait raises question . im sorry but if person was running that late first question would be why is it going to take that long ! visa versa if you were going to be late youd be saying reason WHY .also the meet today he posted he still not said WHY he did it just that he shouldnt of . certainly looks like he was looking for a better offer .the cpl may well of wanted to make sure he was going to turn up due to this ! wouldnt be a shocker if he had got a better offer for the cpl to be left high and dry .

the op has obvious learns he can take forward from this and avoid any issues in future .

What I don’t understand in all of this is why the OP rushed back home to start this thread? He could have returned home freshened up had a nice cuppa and headed there later, or simply cancelled the meet and put it down to experience, and for what I’ve read on hear the OP didn’t even ask them why they were going to be two hours late.

Sounds like bad communication to me, would hardly call someone that’s driving 2 hours and has booked the hotel a timewaster, nor the OP for cancelling given the time they were going to be late, simply sounds like a badly organised meet that was arranged far to quickly.

IF a time had been set AND more importantly agreed, then there is no excuse for not letting the other party know if you are going to be late. Manners don't cost anything.

I can't understand why the OP is being slated so much. If the same thing happened to us we would call the meet off. Like you'd sit there for 2 hours! If they failed to turn up at the agreed time then why would he think they'd show up 2 hours later? I'd be very surprised if anyone would sit and wait for that time.

On the flip side if we were the couple and knew we were going to be 2 hours late I'd pick up the phone, apologise profusely and ask ( not expect) if the other party were ok to wait.

You should have waited around until they were five minutes away then sent a message saying you were going home. At least they'd have had a four hour drive by the time they got back home to reflect on why they said they were local and clearly weren't.

As we are only hearing one side of the story. For example:

'Arranged a meet with _inky24big35 last night, bought new underwear, paid for a babysitter, booked and paid for hotel, travelled 100 miles and they never showed up"

Now obviously that DID NOT happen, but how does anyone know when they are only getting my version of what may/may not have happened.

You've not understood what the OP is saying.

The people he was meeting booked a hotel in their supposed home town and yet it would take them two hours to reach it. Now unless their home town covers an area the size of Wales I'd say he was being messed about here. If he'd have waited two hours I'd bet my life he would have been stood up completely.

Well it does happen with texts, personally if this happened to us we would have simply called them before turning back

who says the couple were actualy leaving their home? they could have had a nightmare day and were leaving from somewhere else, albeit late and were letting the op know they would be late.

mobile companies will only give a 'delivered as soon as possible' promise on texts, so it could have been sent at anytime. so ithout hearing the other side of the story is imposible to judge.

You make a valid point there.

Add to that it also depends on your definition of "local". I only meet people London based, but since it can take me over 90 minutes to travel eight miles to work, getting from south to north London is a veritable nightmare. Whilst Kent and Surrey are 10 minutes from me!

I wish the other couple would come on and tell us their side of the story, then we could trash it all out and make some sort of documentary on it, to be shown on the fab home page.

Over to the OP then. Did they respond to your 'sod it, I'm off home' message?

Who said it was ok? sounds like a badly organised meet to us, text messages can be delayed, if we'd recieved such text we'd just have called them for clarification

Considering the amount of threads from single guys complaining how many months they've waited for a meet, 2 hours seems relatively reasonable to me

"they said they booked it then i was going to pay my half to them

...and you're saying they've messed you about?

I'm half expecting to see a thread in a couple of hours where someone says they booked a hotel near to their meet, but he messed them about and cancelled at the last minute, even though they'd said they were on their way."

ha ha would you wait 2 bliddy hours?

"that wud piss us off aswel if that happened, sorry to hear u got messed about hun x

Exactly, IF IT HAPPENED???

what do u mean?

As we are only hearing one side of the story. For example:

'Arranged a meet with _inky24big35 last night, bought new underwear, paid for a babysitter, booked and paid for hotel, travelled 100 miles and they never showed up"

Now obviously that DID NOT happen, but how does anyone know when they are only getting my version of what may/may not have happened."

bldy conspiracy if you ask me.

"This a forum where anyone can post their opinion and I take note of your views.

Sorry to have upset you so much.

I still think "It happens" and the op would have been better of waiting instead of "whinging on a forum"

I never denied the op's right to do so.

and yes, I do think the op is the timewaster, for the reasons I gave earlier.

"

Oooooops. I was AGREEING with you... You didn't upest me at all.

LOL yes I know you were! I was replying to someone else who appeared a bit upset.

It's just an anon internet forum after all, who really cares.

"now if it had been a single man done this to a couple wot would you all be saying then

he does have a point"

He does indeed.

If I was on time for a meet and got a text expecting me to wait 2 hours.... well you can guess which word would come before 'off'.

"hang on im the one who has been messed about

Have you really? or could you not just have waited for them to turn up as they did say they were on their way, albeit a wee bit later than expected.

Why is it always the size of Wales ???

i agree here. they'd was going to be a tad late least they let u know

You've not understood what the OP is saying.

The people he was meeting booked a hotel in their supposed home town and yet it would take them two hours to reach it. Now unless their home town covers an area the size of Wales I'd say he was being messed about here. If he'd have waited two hours I'd bet my life he would have been stood up completely."

"ha ha would you wait 2 bliddy hours?"

I think if I was in his position I would have gone home and waited, as after all the hotel was supposedly local to him.

I'm not adverse to using my phone, so I would have phoned them up and spoken, not just relied on potentially ambiguous text messages, to say that they should give me a call when they arrive. I'd then leave my home once they called me. If they didn't call then at least I'd have been at home watching Match of the Day, instead of sat in a bar for 2 hours looking like Billy No Mates drinking Coke and eating dry roasted peanuts.

Is someone being 2hrs late for a meet inconsiderate? Yeah, it probably is. But sometimes unexpected things happen to all of us. Sure, it would have been good if they had let him know in advance, but perhaps they couldn't. Maybe, like many others on here, they have a "swinging phone" that they didn't have with them when their car broke down and the RAC took 2 hrs to fix it... who knows. We're only going on 1 person's version of events, and I think there's more to this story than the info shared so far. I do hope the other person / couple see this thread and add their version of events.

I agree that it's wrong to post a 'looking to meet today' when a meet is already arranged. Would certainly make other party think what the hell.

Still find it odd people trying to justify the actions of the other party. We might not have the full story but still. Two parties agree to meet at what sounds a set time, etc. I'm sure we would all be thinking wtf if we were then told the other party was 2 hours away. It would put me off.

To say the OP should have gone home or gone to a bar just makes the whole thing sound even more desperate to me. To cancel was the right thing to do.

I find it very odd that so many negative views have been expressed about the 'couple' in question without.....

(1) Having heard their version of the events

(2) Any proof that the 'couple' in question actually exist

Sorry, but I found the whole thread was just a run up to a typical 'Timewasters' subject......

I hate these threads that are based on anecdotal evidence

I rarely play catch up when I have been offline for a few days and this is one of the times I wish I hadn't bothered. I dunno why I couldnt put it down - think I was expecting to see a real ending with the OP telling us the other couple contacted him again. Really insightful seeing it all unfold in the ten mins it took me to read it, than living it in real time. Its threads like this that make you think wtf am I doing reading timewasting threads.... theres no happy or sad or funny ending is there?
