How ungrateful.a few days ago a beautiful black cat came into my house,he wouldn't leave ,so of course i fed him,and really cared for him,i put up notices in my window saying i had found a cat,i asked the postman to look on any windows ,in case a poster had been put up,i rang the dogs and cats home, and also the cat protection leaque. Then a woman bangs on my door and said it was her cat,and she asked me if i was stupid as i didnt take her cat to a vet and let them scan it for a micro chip, she was really nasty and very rude,I'm in shock ,i cant believe anyone would be so rude and ungrateful.

Yes it does sound rude but maybe was unintentional. She might have been so worried about her cat that the stress of that meant her tongue ran away from her before she engaged her brain

Take her a bill for her cats' little 'holiday'

Your intentions were good but you should never take a cat in without checking first. She was probably beside herself worried about her lost fur baby.

Feeding a cat won't make it go home.

somewhere in the sticks

I had a similar experience with a dog, recently

I found a dog at 7.30 in the evening & kept him overnight. At 8am next I rang my vets to ask if they would scan him so I could locate the owner & was met with a very similar tirade from the receptionist about how thoughtless I was not to have already found the owner!?! I'd posted photos on various sites online.

I took the dog straight to my local dogs home who proceeded to question me like a criminal as the Dog Warden was expecting the dog the night before !?! I don't own a dog, so didn't know the Dog Warden is open 24 hours…as for cats…who knows what you're supposed to do.

This experience just re-enforces my belief that people are generally rude & ignorant these days

This is something my cat would do, hes a greedy little shit and if he's hungry won't leave my neighbours houses(he's on a diet as he's a very fat cat so any food he gets at any other house he always goes back) he's microchipped and wears a collar. He went missing one week and didn't come home for about 6 days, I panicked as did my little one as he is our first cat - I spotted him when I was out with my little one so we shouted his name and he came running over for an older lady who'd obviously been feeding him all week with the wrong food came out to tell me off for shouting on my own cat which we'd had for 2 years previous saying he's her cat. She didn't like it when I asked for money for getting him microchipped or neutered or any of the special cat food he was on and told her to stop feeding OUR cat and if she continues I'd send her his next vet bill for the problems she was causing by feeding him. He's never gone missing since. The lady in question maybe was very worried for her cat and once found it made her talk before thinking. Sorry the lady was rude, I can understand from both sides of it. I wouldn't take it to heart

I agree with this in part, taking it to the vets is the first thing I'd do because lots of people chip their pets now (I've even scooped up the odd run over cat and taken to vets). Think of it from the ladies point of view she thought she'd lost her cat. She could have been a little more polite to you though.

He came in that way, you could have asked a local animal charity to take him in or for advice. I hope she comes back with an apology.

its a shame when you called the cat/dogs home they didn't ask or suggest you got the (potential) chip read

your heart was in the right place but yes... with technology these days a trip to the vet would have been better

This. In fact, he's probably even more likely to keep coming back.

To be honest if it was my cat I would be extremely pissed off too. Cats are very disloyal and will stay anywhere they are being fed. Always turn a cat out that wonders in as it will be perfectly fine outside.

If he comes back again he wont be getting bed and breakfast here,i will take him straight back to her now i know where she lives,i would just be grateful that he hadn't been killed on the main road ,not give a mouthful of abuse ,there are some sickos out there that are very cruel to animals, look at that barstud who microwaved a cat ,sick in the head.

Will a vet scan a stray cat? I thought they only took them in if they were injured.

Rude yes, but you shouldn't have taken in the cat.

One of mine goes round a couple of houses down my street, I know this as he comes home brushed (long haired) and they have told me he comes in but they won't feed him, not even treats as they know what cats are like.

It's like with our old dog we had. She was stayin with my grandparents and she was a little bastard for escaping I swear she was hudini reincarnated or something but she was somewhere she didn't know and right next to a main road. Chipped thankfully but a family saw her took her in their house fed her played all that and we were just so grateful she was safe because they saw her tag thought that address isn't from here so got her scanned and my mam got a phone call. We went back when we got home and sent some flowers for the adults and sweets for the kids as a thank you for protecting our fur baby. Can't help it if u don't know when an animals been fed last and don't want it to starve can u
